Care and Cleaning —Cleaning—OutsideThe ice dispenser spill shelf (onmodels so equipped) should bewiped dry immediately to preventspotting if excessive spills occur.Water left on the shelf may leavedeposits that you can remove bysoaking them with undilutedvinegar. You can also use amixture of one teaspoon of a non-precipitating water softener (suchas Calgon brand) and water, or oneteaspoon (15 ml) of citric acidpowder per pint (470 ml) of hottap water. Soak until the depositdisappears or becomes looseenough to rinse away. Usually30 minutes of soaking time isadequate. Avoid using wax onthe spill shelf and trim.The door handles and trim canbe cleaned with a cloth dampenedwith a solution of mild liquiddishwashing detergent and water.Dry with a soft cloth. Don’t waxhandles or trim.Keep the finish clean. Wipe witha clean cloth, lightly dampenedwith kitchen appliance wax or mildliquid dishwashing detergent. Dryand polish with a clean, soft cloth.Do not wipe the refrigerator with asoiled dishwashing cloth or wettowel. These will leave a residuethat can damage the paint. Do notuse scouring pads, powderedcleaners, bleach or cleanerscontaining bleach because theseproducts can scratch and weakenthe paint finish.Proteet the paint finish. The finishon the outside of the refrigerator isa high quality, baked-on paintfinish. With proper care, it will staynew-looking and rust-free for years.Apply a coat of kitcherdappliancewax when the refrigerator is new,and then at least twice a year.Cleaning—InsideClean the inside of the freshfood and freezer compartmentsat least once a year. Unplugrefrigerator before cleaning. Ifthis is not practical, wring excessmoisture out of sponge or clothwhen cleaning around switches,lights or controls,Use warm water and baking sodasolution—about a tablespoon ofbaking soda to a quart of water.This both cleans and neutralizesodors. Rinse thoroughly with waterand wipe dry.Other parts of the refrigerator—including door gaskets, meat andvegetable drawers, Quick Storeunit, ice storage bin and all plasticparts-can be cleaned the sameway. Do not use cleansing powdersor other abrasive cleaners.To help prevent odors, leave anopen box of baking soda in the rearof the refrigerator, on the top shelf.Change the box every threemonths. All types of floor coveringscan be damaged, particularlycushioned coverings and thosewith embossed surfaces. Pull therefrigerator straight out and returnit to position by pushing it straightin. Moving your refrigerator in aside direction may result indamage to your floor coveringor refrigerator.CondenserFor most efficient operation, youneed to keep the condenser clean.Turn temperature control to OFF.Remove the base grille if yourrefrigerator has one—see page 3.Sweep away or vacuum dust thatis readily accessible on condensercoils, then turn the control back on.For best results, use a brushspecially designed for this purpose. -It is available at most applianceparts stores. This easy cleaningoperation should be done at leastonce a year.16
