Include any cables, etc., which wereoriginally provided with the product. We recommend using the originalcarton and packing materials.• Include in the package evidence of purchase date such as the bill ofsale. Also print your name and address and a description of the defect.Send standard UPS or its equivalent to:Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.11721 B Alameda Ave.Socorro, Texas 79927• Pay any charges billed to you by the Exchange Center for service notcovered by the warranty.• Insure your shipment in case of loss or damage. (Your Owner’s Manual provides informationregarding operating instructions and user controls. You must, upon request, providethis information to your telephone company.The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you mayconnect to your telephone line and still have all of these devices ringwhen your telephone number is called. In most (but not all) areas, thesum of the RENs of all devices connected to one line should notexceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to yourline as determined by the REN, you should contact your local telephonecompany.Notes• This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by thetelephone company.• Party lines are subject to state tariffs, and therefore, you may notbe able to use your own telephone equipment if you are on a partyline. Check with your local telephone company.• Notice must be given to the telephone company upon permanentdisconnection of your telephone from your line.2 Rights of the Telephone CompanyShould your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harmthe telephone network, the telephone company shall, wherepracticable, notify you that temporary discontinuance of service maybe required. Where prior notice is not practicable and thecircumstances warrant such action, the telephone company maytemporarily discontinue service immediately. In case of suchtemporary discontinuance, the telephone company must: (1) promptlynotify you of such temporary discontinuance; (2) afford you theopportunity to correct the situation; and (3) inform you of your right tobring a complaint to the Commission pursuant to procedures set forthin Subpart E of Part 68, FCC Rules and Regulations.The telephone company may make changes in its communicationsfacilities, equipment, operations of procedures where such action isrequired in the operation of its business and not inconsistent withFCC Rules and Regulations. It isnormal for the volume to drop when additional phones are used at the same time.AUTOMATIC REDIALTo automatically redial the last number you called:1. Pick up the handset to get a dial tone.2. Press REDIAL.FLASHPress the FLASH button instead of the hook switch to activate custom calling servicessuch as call waiting or call transfer. Custom calling services are provided by the phonecompany.TEMPORARY TONEIf you have pulse service, you can temporarily change from pulse to tone service in orderto access services that require tone dialing (such as getting information from a local bank).After dialing the telephone number, press and release the tone button, marked with anasterisk (*). When you hang up, your phone returns to pulse service.WALL M OUNT I NSTALLATION1a. If the modular phone jack is inthe base plate on the wallwhere you're going to mountyour phone, plug thetelephone line cord into thejack; run the telephone linecord through the guides onthe bottom of the phone;wrap the excess line cordaround the cord wrap on thebottom of the phone; mountthe phone on the posts; andset the RINGER switch andPULSE/TONE switch(described in detail below).1b. If the modular phone jack isnear the floor and you wantto mount the phone on thewall, plug the telephone linecord into the modular jack.2. Run the telephone line cordthrough the guides on thebottom of the phone.3. Wrap the excess line cordaround the cord wrap on thebottom of the phone.4. Slip the mounting holes onthe bottom of the telephoneover the wall plate posts andslide the base down until thephone is firmly in place. (Wallplate is not included.)5. Set the VOLUME switch (onthe side of the handset) to thedesired listening volume.6. Set PULSE/TONE switch (onthe side of the handset) toTONE for touch-tone service,or set it to PULSE for rotaryservice. If you don’t knowwhich type of service you have,check with the phone company.7. Set PULSE/TONE switch (on the side of the handset)to TONE for touch-tone service, or set it to PULSE forrotary service. If you don’t know which type ofservice you have, check with the phone company.6. Slide the RINGER switch (on the side of the base) toLO or HI.MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTSYou need an RJ11 type modular jack,which is the most common type of phonejack and might look like the one picturedhere.
