Thedisconnect switch may either be fusible ornon-fusible. The non-fusible disconnectswitch provides a means of manuallydisconnecting the motor from the line. Thecircuit breaker or fusible disconnect switchprovides motor branch short-circuitprotection. The overload relay provides, motor protection against running andstalled motor overload. The overload relay is provided with ayellow trip indicator which is located tothe right of the reset arm, and is visiblewhen the overload relay is tripped.FEATURES1. Strongbox coil.2. Overload relay, incorporates a dial for±10% field adjustment of tripping current,so that it is no longer necessary to changeheaters to eliminate such problems asnuisance tripping in hot weather.3. Overload trip indicator.4. Straight through wiring.5. Oversized power terminals willaccommodate up to #4 wire.6. Starter can be disassembled andinspected in a matter of seconds.7.Circuit breaker or disconnect switch ismechanically interlocked with theenclosure door to prevent opening the dooruntil the handle is moved to the OFFposition.COIL REMOVALThe encapsulated coil is imperviousto moisture, dirt, and oil. It resistsmechanical damage and failure dueto high humidity. No tools arerequired to remove coil.1. Remove power from device.2. Press against coil while pulling upslightly on coil retainers (A—Figure 1or 2) and move retainers away fromcoil.3. Withdraw magnet assembly, coil, molded cover, and movable armfrom device.4. Withdraw spring clip (B—Figure 1or 2) and remove armature frommovable arm.5. Remove coil from magnet.6. Replace coil.7. Reassemble device by reversingprocedure.2. Clean magnet mating surfacesof any dust or foreign matter.3. Select heaters in accordancewith heater table, whichaccompanies each device.4. Operate movable magnet andoperating arm by pressing on thenameplate to assure freemovement.5. Mount the starter on a sturdyvertical support.6. The overload relay may be resetmanually by depressing andreleasing the reset arm. Overloadrelays with an optional normallyopen contact are electricallyisolated from the normally closedcontact.7. Provide motor branch circuitprotection in accordance with theNational Electrical Code.CONTACT REMOVALMovable contacts can be inspectedand replaced in seconds—withouttools (Figure 3).WARNING: Disconnectpower before Installing orservicing.RATINGSINSTALLATIONBefore connecting the starter:1. Remove all packing. These instructions do not purport to cover all details or variations in equipment not to provide for every possible contingency tobe met in connection with installation, operation or maintenance.
