Never leave the surface units unattendedat high heat settings. Boilovers cause smokingand greasy spillovers that may catch on fire. Do not use aluminum foil to line the drip pansor anywhere in the oven except as described inthis manual. Misuse could result in a shock, firehazard or damage to the range. Be sure the drip pans and the vent duct are notcovered and are in place. Their absence duringcooking could damage range parts and wiring. Only certain types of glass, glass ⁄ceramic,earthenware or other glazed containers aresuitable for cooktop service; others may breakbecause of the sudden change in temperature. To minimize the possibility of burns, ignition offlammable materials and spillage, the handle ofa container should be turned toward the centerof the range without extending over nearbysurface units. Do not use water on grease fires. Never pick upa flaming pan. Turn the controls off. Smother aflaming pan on a surface unit by covering thepan completely with a well-fitting lid, cookiesheet or flat tray. Use a multi-purpose drychemical or foam-type fire extinguisher. Flaming grease outside a pan can be put out bycovering it with baking soda or, if available, byusing a multi-purpose dry chemical orfoam-type fire extinguisher. Flame in the oven can be smothered completelyby closing the oven door and turning the ovenoff or by using a multi-purpose dry chemical orfoam-type fire extinguisher. Do not touch the surface units, the heatingelements or the interior surface of the oven.These surfaces may be hot enough to burneven though they are dark in color. During andafter use, do not touch, or let clothing or otherflammable materials contact the surface units,areas nearby the surface units or any interiorarea of the oven; allow sufficient time forcooling first. Potentially hot surfaces include the cooktop,areas facing the cooktop, oven vent opening,surfaces near the opening, crevices around theoven door.
