12OperatingInstructions Safety InstructionsCare and CleaningInstallationInstructionsTroubleshootingTipsConsumer SupportPlastic items on the cooktop may meltif left too close to the vent.Vent appearance and location vary.The oven has 5 rack positions.It also has a special low rack position (R)for extra large items, such as a largeturkey.To avoid possible burns, place the racks in the desired position before you turn the oven on.Oven ControlYour oven is controlled by a single OVENCONTROL knob.It will normally take 30–90 seconds beforethe flame comes on. After the oven reachesthe selected temperature, the oven burnercycles—off completely, then on with afull flame—to maintain the selectedtemperature.Using the oven.Before You Begin…The racks have stop-locks, so that whenplaced correctly on the rack supports(A through E), they will stop beforecoming completely out, and will not tilt.When placing and removing cookware,pull the rack out to the bump on therack support.To remove a rack, pull it toward you, tilt thefront end up and pull it out.To replace, place the end of the rack(stop-locks) on the support, tilt up thefront and push the rack in.NOTE: The rack is not designed to slide out atthe special low rack (R) position.Oven VentYour oven is vented through ducts at the rearof the range. Do not block these ducts whencooking in the oven—it is important that theflow of hot air from the oven and fresh airto the oven burner be uninterrupted.Avoid touching the vent openings ornearby surfaces during oven or broileroperation—they may become hot.■ Handles of pots and pans on the cooktopmay become hot if left too close to the vent.■ Do not leave plastic or flammable items onthe cooktop—they may melt or ignite if lefttoo close to the vent.■ Do not leave closed containers on thecooktop. The pressure in closed containersmay increase, which may cause them toburst.■ Metal items will become very hot if they areleft on the cooktop, and could cause burns.Power Outage (electric ignition models)CAUTION: Do not make anyattempt to operate the electric ignition ovenduring an electrical power failure.The oven or broiler cannot be lit duringa power failure. Gas will not flow unlessthe glow bar is hot.If the oven is in use when a power failureoccurs, the oven burner shuts off and cannotbe re-lit until power is restored. This isbecause the flow of gas is automaticallystopped and will not resume when poweris restored until the glow bar has reachedoperating temperature.Oven Light (on some models)Use the switch on the lower control panel toturn the light on or off.
