32Installation InstructionsELECTRICAL CONNECTIONSElectrical Requirements120-volt, 60 Hertz, properly groundedbranch circuit protected by a 15-amp or20-amp circuit breaker or time delay fuse.Extension Cord CautionsBecause of potential safety hazardsassociated with certain conditions, westrongly recommend against the use of anextension cord. However, if you still electto use an extension cord, it is absolutelynecessary that it be a UL-listed, 3-wiregrounding-type appliance extension cordand that the current carrying rating ofthe cord in amperes be equivalent to,or greater than, the branch circuit rating.GroundingIMPORTANT—(Please read carefully)FOR PERSONAL SAFETY, THISAPPLIANCE MUST BE PROPERLYGROUNDED.The power cord of this appliance isequipped with a 3-prong (grounding)plug which mates with a standard 3-prong grounding wall receptacle tominimize the possibility of electricshock hazard from this appliance. The customer should have the wallreceptacle and circuit checked bya qualified electrician to make surethe receptacle is properly grounded.Where a standard 2-prong wallreceptacle is encountered, it is thepersonal responsibility and obligationof the customer to have it replacedwith a properly grounded 3-prong wallreceptacle.DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND)PRONG FROM THE POWER CORD.3Preferred MethodEnsure proper groundexists before useA word about GFCI’s—GFCI’s are notrequired or recommended for gas rangereceptacles.Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s)are devices that sense leakage of currentin a circuit and automatically switch offpower when a threshold leakage level isdetected. These devices must be manuallyreset by the consumer. The NationalElectrical Code requires the use of GFCI’sin kitchen receptacles installed to servecountertop surfaces. Performance of therange will not be affected if operated ona GFCI-protected circuit but occasionalnuisance tripping of the GFCI breakeris possible.Usage Situations where Appliance PowerCord will be Disconnected Infrequently. An adapter may be used only on a15-amp circuit. Do not use an adapteron a 20-amp circuit. Where local codespermit, a TEMPORARY CONNECTIONmay be made to a properly groundedtwo-prong wall receptacle by the useof a UL-listed adapter, available at mosthardware stores. The larger slot in theadapter must be aligned with the largerslot in the wall receptacle to provideproper polarity in the connection ofthe power cord.ATemporary Method(Adapter plugs notpermitted in Canada)Ensure properground andfirm connectionbefore useAlign largeprongs/slotsCAUTION — Attaching the adapterground terminal to the wall receptacle coverscrew does not ground the appliance unlessthe cover screw is metal, and not insulated, and the wall receptacle is grounded throughthe house wiring. The customer should havethe circuit checked by a qualified electricianto make sure the receptacle is properlygrounded.
