See Electrical Connections in this section.Do not install this product with an air curtainhood or other cooktop hood that operates byblowing air down on the cooktop. This airflowmay interfere with operation of the gas burnersresulting in fire or explosion hazard.3 ELECTRICALCONNECTIONSWARNING Shock Hazard: Thisappliance must be properly grounded.Failure to do so can result in electric shock.Electrical Requirements - 120-volt, 60 Hertz, properly grounded circuit protected by a15-amp or 20-amp circuit breaker or time delayfuse. It is recommended that a separate circuitserving only this cooktop be provided.NOTE: Use of automatic, wireless, or wiredexternal switches that shut off power to theappliance are not recommended for this product.GroundingThe power cord of this appliance is equippedwith a three-prong (grounding) plug which plugsinto a standard three-prong grounding wallreceptacle to minimize the possibility of electricshock hazard from this appliance. The customer should have the wall receptacleand circuit checked by a qualified electrician tomake sure the receptacle is properly grounded.Where a standard two-prong wall receptacle isencountered, it is the personal responsibility andobligation of the customer to have it replaced witha properly grounded three-prong wall receptacle.DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND)PRONG FROM THE POWER CORD. DONOT USE AN ADAPTER. DO NOT USE ANEXTENSION CORD.Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s) arenot required or recommended for gas cooktopreceptacles. Performance of the cooktop willnot be affected if operated on a GFCI-protectedcircuit but occasional nuisance tripping of theGFCI breaker is possible.5 CHECK SURFACEBURNERSPush and turn a knob to the LITE position. Aclicking sound indicates proper operation ofthe ignition system. When lighting any burner, sparks will appear at all burners but gas flowsfrom only the one selected. Once air is purgedfrom the supply line, burner should light within4 seconds. After burner lights, rotate the knobout of the LITE position. Try each burner insuccession until all burners have been checked.Quality of FlamesDetermine the quality of flames visually. Normalburner flames should look like (A) or (B).Long, bright yellow flames are not normal.Normal flames may show signs of an orangetint when well heated or signs of flickeringorange due to particles in the gas or air.FOR YOUR SAFETYWARNING Before beginning the installation, switch power off at service panel and lockthe service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When theservice disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, suchas a tag, to the service panel.Ensure properground existsbefore use WHEN ALL HOOKUPS ARECOMPLETEDMake sure all controls are left in the offposition. Make sure the flow of combustion andventilation air to the cooktop is unobstructed.Check that all packing materials and tape havebeen removed. This will include adhesive tape, wire ties, cardboard and protective plastic.Failure to remove these materials could resultin damage to the appliance once the appliancehas been turned on and surfaces have heated.INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION31-11089 07-17 GEAJGP3030, JGP3530, JGP5030, PGP7030, PGP9030, CGP9530JGP3036, JGP5036, PGP7036, PGP9036, CGP95364 SURFACE BURNERSWARNING Fire or Explosion Hazard:Do not operate the burner without all burnerparts in place.A. Overtightening maycrack the pressure regulator resulting in fireor explosion hazard.Gas Pressure RegulatorYou must use the gas pressure regulator suppliedwith this range. For proper operations the inletpressure to the regulator should be as follows:Natural Gas:Minimum pressure: 6” of Water ColumnMaximum pressure: 13” of Water ColumnPropane Gas:Minimum pressure: 11” of Water ColumnMaximum pressure: 13” of Water ColumnIf you are not sure about the inlet pressurecontact local gas supplier.Shut off the main gas supply valve beforedisconnecting the old cooktop and leave it offuntil the new hook-up has been completed.Don’t forget to relight the pilot on other gasappliances when you turn the gas back on.Because hard piping restricts movement ofthe range, the use of a CSA International-certified flexible metal appliance connector isrecommended unless local codes require ahard-piped connection. If the hard piping method is used, you mustcarefully align the pipe; the cooktop cannot bemoved after the connection is made.To prevent gas leaks, apply pipe joint compoundor wrap pipe thread tape with Teflon* around allmale (external) pipe threads.A. Install provided regulator in the gas linebetween the cooktop and manual shut-offvalve. Refer to the arrow on the back of theregulator for gas flow direction. Ensure thefront of the regulator is facing towards thecabinet front, easily accessible through thecabinet doors.B. Install a manual shut-off valve in the gas linein a location easily accessible through thecabinet doors.C. When all connections have been made, ensure all gas controls are in the off positionand turn on the main gas supply valve.Use a liquid leak detector at all joints andconnections to check for leaks in the system. When using pressures greater than 1/2 psigto pressure test the gas supply system ofthe residence, disconnect the cooktop andindividual shut-off valve from the gas supplypiping. When using pressures of 1/2 psig orless to pressure test the gas supply system, simply isolate the cooktop from the gas supplysystem by closing the individual shut-off valve. When checking for proper operation of theregulator, the inlet pressure must be at least 1”greater than the operating (manifold) pressureas given on rating label of product.*Teflon: Registered trademark of DuPontCooktopƎƎ ƎƎƎ30” Models 36” ModelsƎ28-1/2”lengthof cut19-5/8” width cut30” Models 36” ModelsTYPICAL INSTALLATION WITH NOOBSTRUCTION BELOW COOKTOPALTERNATE INSTALLATION WITHOBSTRUCTION BELOW COOKTOPABCDFGEABCDFGEIHA. 3/8” NPT male pipethreadB.
