12CARE AND CLEANING(continued)Grill GratesThese are made from cast aluminum and have a non-stick finish.The grates should be cleaned after each use.They can be cleaned with detergent and a plasticscrubber, such as Tuffy, or washed in the dishwasherif burned-on residue is first removed. For heavy soil,grates can be soaked in hot, soapy water mixed withhousehold ammonia.Do not use metal brushes or abrasive scouringpads or other scrubbers intended to clean outdoorgrills. These will remove the finish as well asscratch the grates. Do not clean in a self-cleaningoven or use oven cleaners on the grates.Porcelain Grill BasinThis area, located under the grill-rocks, should becleaned after each heavy use of the grill. The grillelement must be lifted during the cleaning process.To remove light soil, clean with soapy water or witha cleaner such as 409. For easier cleanup, soak papertowels in a household cleanser, lay in the burnerbasin and soak for at least a half-hour or longer.To remove moderate soil, scrub with Comet, BonAmi, a soft scrub cleanser or plastic scrubber.To remove stubborn soil, spray with an oven cleaner.Let soak overnight. Wipe clean. Rinse and dry.Grill-RocksThese are made from cast-iron which have beencoated with porcelain enamel.The grill-rocks should be cleaned frequently or afterany excessive build-up of grease.To clean light soil, use detergent and a plasticscrubber or wash in the dishwasher after burned-onresidue is first removed.For heavy soil, soak in hot, soapy water to which acleanser, such as household ammonia, has been added.Stubborn spots on grill-rocks, such as burned-onresidue from sauces, can be scrubbed with a stiffbrush.An oven cleaner can be used for burned on soil.Follow manufacturer’s directions; spray on cleanerand let soak overnight.Do not clean grill-rocks in a self-cleaning oven.
