10IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSSURFACE COOKING• Always turn the surface burners to OFFbefore removing cookware.• Carefully watch foods being fried at a highflame setting.• Foods for frying should be as dry as possible.Frost on frozen foods or moisture on freshfoods can cause hot fat to bubble up and overthe sides of the pan.• Use the least possible amount of fat foreffective shallow or deep fat frying. Fillingthe pan too full of fat can cause spilloverswhen food is added.• Use a deep fat thermometer wheneverpossible to prevent overheating fat beyondthe smoking point.• Never try to move a pan of hot fat, especiallya deep fat fryer. Wait until the fat is cool.• When using glass cookware, make sure it isdesigned for cooktop cooking.• If a combination of oils or fats will be usedin frying, stir together before heating or asfats melt slowly.• Do not leave any items on the cooktop. Thehot air from the vent may ignite flammableitems and will increase pressure in closedcontainers, which may cause them to burst.• Use proper pan size—avoid pans that areunstable or easily tipped. Select cookwarehaving flat bottoms large enough to properlycontain food and avoid boilovers andspillovers and large enough to cover burnergrate. This will both save cleaning time andprevent hazardous accumulations of food, since heavy spattering or spillovers left on thecooktop can ignite. Use pans with handlesthat can be easily grasped and remain cool.• Keep all plastics away from the top burners.• Do not leave plastic items on the cooktop—they may melt if left too close to the vent.• To avoid the possibility of a burn, always becertain that the controls for all burners are atthe OFF position and all grates are coolbefore attempting to remove them.• When flaming foods under the hood, turnthe fan on.• Grease is flammable. Let hot grease coolbefore attempting to handle it. Avoid lettinggrease deposits collect in the grill or thegriddle drip trays. Clean these areas aftereach use.• For proper lighting and performance of thecooktop burners, keep the burner portsclean. It may be necessary to clean thesewhen there is a boilover or when the burnerdoes not light, even though the electronicignitors click.• After cleaning, it is important to make surethe cap and burner port are properly alignedwith the burner base. Incorrect alignmentwill produce poor burner performance.Never operate the burner without all burnerparts in place.• Clean the cooktop with caution. Avoid steamburns; do not use a wet sponge or clothto clean the cooktop while it is hot. Somecleaners produce noxious fumes if appliedto a hot surface. Follow manufacturer’sdirections.• Do not use the grill for cooking excessively fattymeats or products which promote flare-up.• If cooktop is located near a window, do nothang long curtains that could blow over thesurface burners and create a fire hazard.• Be sure all the cooktop controls are turnedoff and the appliance is cool before usingany type of aerosol cleaner or cooking sprayon or around the appliance. The chemicalthat produces the spraying action could, inthe presence of heat, ignite or cause metalparts to corrode.
