The shiny, silver-colored ovenracks may remain in the oven during theself-cleaning cycle, but they will lose theirluster and become hard to slide.It will be necessary to grease all ovenrack side edges with a light coating ofvegetable oil after cleaning them by handor in the oven. Drythe grates with a cloth—don’t put themback on the cooktop wet.To get rid of burned-on food, placethe grates in a covered container. Add1/4 cup (59 mL) ammonia and let themsoak several hours or overnight. Wash,rinse well and dry.Although they’re durable, the grates willgradually lose their shine, regardless ofthe best care you can give them. This isdue to their continual exposure to hightemperatures.Do not operate a burner for an extendedperiod of time without cookware on thegrate. The finish on the grate may chipwithout cookware to absorb the heat.After cleaning, replace the side grates sothat the center extensions are orientedtoward the center of the cooktop. Makesure the grates are positioned securelyover the burners and that they are stableand level.Rubber Grate FeetFor stability, your cooktop has rubberfeet on the burner grates. Foods with a lot of acid (tomatoes,sauerkraut, fruit juices, etc.) or foods withhigh sugar content could cause a dullspot if allowed to set.When the surface has cooled, washand rinse. For other spills such as fatspatterings, etc., wash with soap and wateronce the surface has cooled. Then rinseand polish with a dry cloth.NOTE: Do not lift the cooktop.
