Operating Instructions Installation InstructionsTroubleshooting TipsConsumer Support Safety Instructions8Electric DryerEXHAUST INFORMATIONTHIS DRYER COMES READY FOR REAREXHAUSTING. IF SPACE IS LIMITED, USE THEINSTRUCTIONS IN SECTION 9 TO EXHAUSTDIRECTLY FROM THE SIDES OR BOTTOM OFTHE CABINET.EXHAUST CONNECTIONSTANDARD REAR EXHAUST(Vented at floor level)3 4WARNING - USE ONLY METAL 10 cm (4”)DUCT. DO NOT USE DUCT LONGER THANSPECIFIED IN THE EXHAUST LENGTH TABLE.WARNING - TO REDUCE THE RISKOF FIRE OR PERSONAL INJURY:Using exhaust longer than specified length will:• Increase the drying times and the energy cost.• Reduce the dryer life.• Accumulate lint, creating a potential fire hazard. The correct exhaust installation is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.Problems due to incorrect installation are not covered bythe warranty. The MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE length of the exhaust systemdepends upon the type of duct, number of turns, the type ofexhaust hood (wall cap), and all conditions noted below. Bothrigid and flexible metal duct are shown in the table below. This dryer must be exhausted to the outdoors.• Use only metal duct.• Do not terminate exhaust in a chimney, any gasvent, under an enclosed floor (crawl space), or intoan attic. The accumulated lint could create a firehazard.• Provide an access for inspection and cleaning ofthe exhaust system, especially at turns. Inspect andclean at least once a year.• Never terminate the exhaust into a common ductwith a kitchen exhaust. A combination of lint andgrease could create a fire hazard.• Do not obstruct incoming or exhausted air.EXHAUST SYSTEM CHECKLISTHOOD OR WALLCAP• Terminate in a manner to prevent back drafts or entry of birds or otherwildlife.• Termination should present minimal resistance to the exhaust air flowand should require little or no maintenance to prevent clogging.• Never install a screen in or over the exhaust duct. This could cause lintbuild up, thus creating a fire hazard.• Wall caps must be installed at least 30 cm (12 in.) above ground level orany other obstruction with the opening pointed down.• If roof vents or louvered plenums are used, they must be equivalent toa 10 cm (4 in. ) dampened wall cap in regard to resistance to air flow, prevention of back drafts, and maintenance required to prevent clogging.SEPARATION OF TURNSFor best performance, separate all turns by at least 1.2 m (4 ft.) of straightduct, including distance between last turn and exhaust hood.TURNS OTHER THAN 90º• One turn of 45º or less may be ignored.• Two 45º turns should be treated as one 90º turn.• Each turn over 45º should be treated as one 90º turn.SEALING OF JOINTS• All joints should be tight to avoid leaks. The male end of each section ofduct must point away from the dryer.• Do not assemble the ductwork with fasteners that extend into the duct. They will serve as a collection point for lint.• Duct joints should be made air and moisture-tight by wrapping theoverlapped joints with duct tape.• Horizontal runs should slope down toward the outdoors 1.2cm (1/2 in.) /ft.INSULATIONDuct work that runs through an unheated area or is near air conditioningshould be insulated to reduce condensation and lint build-up.If using flexible metal duct, please refer to page 10.NOTE: WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND SOLID METAL EXHAUSTDUCTING. HOWEVER, IF FLEXIBLE DUCTING IS USED IT MUST BEMETAL NOT PLASTIC.CUT THE METAL EXHAUST DUCT(NOT SUPPLIED) TO THE PROPERLENGTH.For straightline installation, connect the dryerexhaust to theexternal exhausthood using ducttape or clamp.
