Installation Instructions35INSTALLING THE WATER LINERecommended copper water supply kits are WX8X2,WX8X3 or WX8X4, depending on the amount of tubingyou need. Approved plastic water supply lines are GESmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing (WX08X10006,WX08X10015 and WX08X10025).When connecting your refrigerator to a GE ReverseOsmosis Water System, the only approved installationis with a GE RVKit. For other reverse osmosis watersystems, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.If the water supply to the refrigerator is from aReverse Osmosis (RO) Water Filtration SystemAND the refrigerator also has a water filter,use the refrigerator’s filter bypass plug. Usingthe refrigerator’s water filtration cartridge inconjunction with the RO water filter can resultin hollow ice cubes. Some models do not comeequipped with the filter bypass plug. To obtain afree bypass plug, call 800-GECARES. In Canada call800.561.3344.This water line installation is not warranted by therefrigerator or ice maker manufacturer. Followthese instructions carefully to minimize the risk ofexpensive water damage.Water hammer (water banging in the pipes) inhouse plumbing can cause damage to refrigeratorparts and lead to water leakage or flooding. Call aqualified plumber to correct water hammer beforeinstalling the water supply line to the refrigerator.To prevent burns and product damage, do not hookup the water line to the hot water line.For PFE27 and PYE23K Models: If the refrigerator isoperated before the water connection is made tothe ice maker, press and hold both the CRUSHEDand CUBED buttons together for 3 seconds todisengage the ice maker. When the refrigerator hasbeen connected to the water supply, press and holdboth the CRUSHED and CUBED buttons together for3 seconds to re-engage the ice maker.For Non-LCD Models: If the refrigerator is operatedbefore the water connection is made to the icemaker, press and release the ICE MAKER button onthe control panel to disengage the ice maker. Whenthe refrigerator has been connected to the watersupply, press and release the ICE MAKER button onthe control panel to re-engage the ice maker.BEFORE YOU BEGINWHAT YOU WILL NEED• Copper or GE SmartConnect ™ Refrigerator Tubingkit, 1/4” outer diameter to connectthe refrigerator to the water supply. If usingcopper, be sure both ends of the tubing arecut square.To determine how much tubing you need:measure the distance from the water valveon the back of the refrigerator to the water supplypipe.
