Before You Use Your SmartDispenseDetergent DispenserYour dishwasher comes equipped with anautomatic liquid dishwasher detergent dispenser(SmartDispense). Based on the soil level of yourdishes and the hardness of your tap water, theSmartDispense feature will automatically introducethe optimal amount of detergent into yourdishwasher during each cycle. The dispenser hasthe capacity to hold approximately 3 months ofdetergent (normal usage = 4 times per week)depending on usage. Thus, once the dispenser isfilled, you will no longer need to put detergentinto the dishwasher every time it is operated. Anindicator light will signal when the dispenser is lowand needs to be refilled. Once the light comes on,you will be able to use the dishwasher 4 to 7 timesbefore the dispenser is completely empty.Prior to the first use, the dishwasher needs tobe calibrated for water hardness. Please followdirections below to calibrate the dishwasher tothe hardness of your tap water.Determine the hardness of your tap waterIn the bag containing these instructions, youshould find a water hardness strip package. Readthe instructions on the package, remove the teststrip and follow the instructions to determine thehardness level of your tap water. You will use thisinformation to calibrate your dishwasher todispense the optimal amount of detergent.Water hardness test strip indicationWater hardness calibrationFrom the standby mode (dishwasher not runninga cycle and the panel lights are on), the consumermay enter the water hardness selection mode.On dishwashers with a 12-button front controlpanel, press the COOKWARE and DELAY HOURS padsat the same time for 3 seconds to enter the waterhardness calibration mode.On dishwashers with a 7-button top control panel,press the “Up” Arrow Pad and DELAY HOURSpad at the same time for 3 seconds to enter thewater hardness calibration mode.Once in the water hardness calibration mode, the3-digit display will appear and display a numberfrom 1 to 5. If the water hardness has never beforebeen entered, the display will show 1. Otherwise, itwill show the hardness previously entered. The “Up”or “Down” Arrow Pads, on the topcontrol panel, may be pressed to change the valueshown on the display. The COOKWARE and NORMALpads, on the front control panel, may be pressed tochange the value shown on the display. Set thevalue according to Table 1 below as determinedfrom the water hardness test strip.Press the START/RESET pad to return the control toStandby mode and save the last displayed value asthe new water hardness value.
