Caring for the dishwasherTo clean the control panel, use a lightly dampened cloth, then dry thoroughly. To clean the exterior, use a good appliancepolish. Never use sharp objects, scouring pads or harsh cleaners on any part of the dishwasher.If your dishwasher is left in an unheated placeduring the winter, ask a service technician to:1 Cut off electrical power to the dishwasher.Remove fuses or trip circuit breaker.2 Turn off the water supply and disconnect thewater inlet line from the water valve.3 Drain water from the inlet line and watervalve. (Use a pan to catch the water.)4 Reconnect the water inlet line to thewater valve.5 Remove the plastic sump cover in the tubbottom and use a sponge to soak up waterin the rubber boot.An air gap protects your dishwasher againstwater backing up into it if a drain clogs.The air gap is not a part of the dishwasher.It is not covered by your warranty. Not allplumbing codes require air gaps, so you may nothave one.The air gap is easy to clean.1 Turn off the dishwasher and lift off thechrome cover.2 Unscrew the plastic cap and clean witha toothpick.Check the air gap any time yourdishwasher isn’t draining well.Air gap Does Your Dishwasher Have an Air Gap?Protect Against Freezing14For cleaning rust and tarnish, cleaners withoxalic acid such as Bar Keepers Friend SoftCleanser™ will remove rust, tarnish and smallblemishes. Use only a liquid cleanser freeof grit and rub in the direction of the brushlines with a damp soft sponge. Do not useappliance wax or polish on the stainless steel.For other blemishes and marks, use StainlessSteel Magic or a similar product using a cleansoft cloth.
