BPage 9 of 172.7 Autopilot CouplingIFR installations of a Garmin 500W Series unit allow the operator to fly allphases of flight based on the navigation information presented to the pilot;however, not all modes may be coupled to the autopilot. All autopilots maybe coupled in Oceanic (OCN), Enroute (ENR), and Terminal (TERM)modes; however, the FAA requires that vertical coupling of an autopilot forapproaches be demonstrated to meet their intended function and provide safeand proper operation to published minimums. This installation is limited to:
No limitations for autopilot coupling.
Lateral GPS coupling (LNAV only). For 530W units: The GS of anILS (VLOC) may be coupled to the autopilot without any limitations. This limitation may be removed after an FAA Flight Test demonstration.Contact Garmin International, Tech Support for additional information.2.8 Terrain Display [Units without TAWS]Terrain refers to the display of terrain information. Pilots are NOTauthorized to deviate from their current ATC clearance to comply withterrain/obstacle alerts. Terrain unit alerts are advisory only and are notequivalent to warnings provided by TAWS. Navigation must not bepredicated upon the use of the terrain display. The terrain display is intended to serve as a situational awareness tool only.By itself, it may not provide either the accuracy or the fidelity on which tobase decisions and plan maneuvers to avoid terrain or obstacles.2.9 TAWS Function [Units with TAWS]TAWS is an optional extension of Terrain. Pilots are authorized to deviatefrom their current ATC clearance to the extent necessary to comply withTAWS warnings. Navigation must not be predicated upon the use ofTAWS.Display of the terrain and obstacles is supplemental data only. Maneuveringsolely by reference to the terrain and obstacle display is not recommended orauthorized.
