Whensignificant weather conditions are reported or forecast, Air Traffic Control (ATC)facilities are required to solicit PIREPs. A PIREP may contain non-forecast adverseweather conditions, such as low in-flight visibility, icing conditions, wind shear,and turbulence. PIREPs are issued as either Routine (UA) or Urgent (UUA). Theupdate rate is approximately every 20 minutes.5.5 FIS-B Winds and Temperatures AloftWinds and Temperatures Aloft data shows the forecast wind speed, direction,and Temperature at selected altitudes. Altitudes can be selected in incrementsfrom the 1,000 feet up to 53,000 feet. The update rate is every 12 hours.5.6 SIGMETs and AIRMETsSIGMETs (SIGnificant METerological Information) and AIRMETs (AIRmen’sMETerological Information) are broadcast for potentially hazardous weatherconsidered of importance to aircraft. The update rate is approximately every 20minutes.
