GPS APPLICATIONS >1Garmin Que Applications GuideGPS APPLICATIONSStarting Up the Garmin QueIf you followed the Setup instructions provided with theproduct, then both the Garmin GPS receiver has been activatedand the Garmin Que application software has been successfullyinstalled in the Pocket PC. To start operation, turn on yourdevice and tap Start to display the Start Menu, then tapPrograms to display thePrograms List with theGarmin Que icon. Tapthe Garmin Que icon todisplay an introductionpage and then the MapPage and you’re on yourway to navigating.Helpful Hint: Toshorten the process ofrestoring the Garmin Queapplication to visiblestatus, open Settings andthe Menus application onthe Personal page. Fromthe Menus page place acheck next to Garmin Que to place it on the Start List.It is important to remember that the GPS receiver willcontinue to operate when the application is not in use. This cancontribute to depletion of reserve battery power. To preventaccidental battery drain, it is recommended the you turn theGPS receiver off when the Garmin Que application is not inuse.The methods for closing the Que application are to tap“Exit” from the Map PageMain Menu, or from anyapplication, tap Start,then Settings, and finallyMemory and tab to a listof Running Programs. Tap“Garmin Que” and then theStop button.Viewing the Map PageThe Map Page is the basefor accessing all of theQue navigation features.A message window at the top of this page keeps you informedof the status of the GPS receiver. When the GPS receiver isnot in communication the Map Page will display a “No GPSConnected” message.While the GPS receiver is first turned on, the Map Page willthen display a “Waiting for GPS” message until the applicationconnects with the receiver. Once connected an “AcquiringSatellites” message appears until GPS Location is achieved.To return to the Map Page from any other Que feature page oroption, tap OK.Initializing the GPSReceiverThe GPS receiver mustbe initialized (given anopportunity to determineits location) before youcan begin using it fornavigation. Before it canreceive signals from GPSsatellites overhead, youmust turn the receiveron and position it parallel with the horizon for best satellitereception. In order to receive satellite signals, you must beoutdoors and have a clear view of the sky. Satellite signalscannot pass through solid materials (except glass) or denseoverhead tree cover. When the receiver initializes for thefirst time it may take as long as 15 minutes. This time can beshortened by using the GPS Info Page to select the general areain which you are currently located (see page 21). Anytime youhave traveled more than 600 miles with the GPS receiver turnedoff, the receiver must again find its location by re-initializing.If for any reason, you have difficulty initializing your receiver,refer to the Troubleshooting Guide on page 38. The solutioncould be as simple as moving slightly to avoid buildings orobjects that are blocking or deflecting satellite signals.Tap to open the Application
