OD, 14 threads per in.,pipe-threaded pole (not included), or install it underfiberglass. For optimal performance, consider these guidelineswhen selecting the antenna mounting location.• The antenna must be mounted 5.9 in. (150 mm)from a compass to avoid interference.• To ensure the best reception, the antennashould be mounted in a location that has a clear, unobstructed view of the sky in all directions ➊.➊ ➌➋• The antenna should not be mounted where it isshaded by the superstructure of the boat ➋, aradome antenna, or the mast.• The antenna should not be mounted near theengine or other sources of ElectromagneticInterference (EMI) ➌.• If a radar is present, it is best to install theantenna above the path of the radar ➍, thoughit is acceptable to install it below the path of theradar ➎ if necessary. The antenna should not beinstalled directly in the path of the radar ➏.➏➎➍• The antenna should be mounted at least 3 ft.(1 m) away from (preferably above) the path of aradar beam or a VHF radio antenna ➐.➐• On a sailboat, to prevent inaccurate speedreadings caused by excessive heeling, theantenna should not be mounted high on themast.• The antenna provides more-stable readingswhen located nearer to water level.testing the Mounting Location1 Temporarily secure the antenna in the preferredmounting location and test it for correct operation.2 If you experience interference with otherelectronics, move the antenna to a differentlocation, and test it again.3 Repeat steps 1–2 until you can verify that theantenna operates correctly.4 Permanently mount the antenna.Surface-Mounting the AntennaBefore you permanently mount the antenna, test themounting location for correct operation (page 1).Use the surface-mount bracket ➊ as your mountingtemplate.➊➋➌➍➎April 2012 190-01361-91_0B Printed in Taiwan
