Sonar Alarm SettingsNOTE: Some settings require external accessories.Select Settings > Alarms > Sonar.Shallow Water: Sets an alarm to sound when the depth is lessthan the specified value.Deep Water: Sets an alarm to sound when the depth is greaterthan the specified value.Water Temp.: Sets an alarm to sound when the transducerreports a temperature that is 2°F (1.1°C) above or below thespecified temperature.Fish: Sets an alarm to sound when the device detects asuspended target.• sets the alarm to sound when fish of all sizes aredetected.• sets the alarm to sound only when medium or largefish are detected.• sets the alarm to sound only when large fish aredetected.Advanced Sonar SettingsNOTE: Not all options and settings apply to all models, soundermodules, and transducers. From a sonar view, select MENU > Sonar Setup > Advanced.Interference: Adjusts the sensitivity to reduce the effects ofinterference from nearby sources of noise. The lowest interference setting that achieves the desiredimprovement should be used to remove interference from thescreen. Correcting installation issues that cause noise is thebest way to eliminate interference.Surface Noise: Hides surface noise to help reduce clutter.Wider beam widths (lower frequencies) can show moretargets, but can generate more surface noise.Color Gain: See Adjusting the Level of Detail.TVG: Adjusts the appearance of returns to compensate forweakened sonar signals in deeper water, and reduces theappearance of noise near the surface. When the value of thissetting is increased, the colors associated with low-levelnoise and fish targets appear more consistent throughvarious water depths. This setting also reduces the noisenear the surface of the water.Transducer Installation SettingsNOTE: Not all options and settings apply to all models, soundermodules, and transducers. From a sonar view, select MENU > Sonar Setup > Installation.Restore Sonar Defaults: Restores the factory default settingsfor the sonar view.Transducer Type: Allows you to select the type of transducerthat is connected to the device.Shift: Allows you to set the depth range on which the sonar isfocused. This enables you to zoom in to an area within thefocused depth.Flip Left/Right: Changes the orientation of the SideVü sonarview when the transducer is installed backward.Flipped: Sets the orientation of the Panoptix sonar view whenthe transducer is installed with the cables pointing toward theport side of the boat.Beam Width: Sets the width of the Panoptix transducer beam.Narrow beam widths are better for high-speed operation andrough sea conditions. They also can improve bottomdefinition and thermocline definition.Wider beam widths generate larger arches for fish targetreturns, making them ideal for locating fish. Wider beamwidths also perform better in deep water, because the lowerfrequency has better deep water penetration. Wider beamwidths can also generate more surface noise and reducebottom signal continuity during rough sea conditions.Use AHRS: Allows the internal attitude heading and referencesystem (AHRS) sensors to detect the installation angle of thePanoptix transducer. When this setting is turned off, it isassumed the transducer is installed at a 45-degree angle.Sonar RecordingsRecording the Sonar DisplayNOTE: Not all models support sonar recording.1 Insert a memory card into the card slot.2 From a sonar view, select MENU > Sonar Setup > SonarRecording > Record Sonar.15 minutes of sonar recording uses approximately 200 MB ofspace of the inserted memory card. You can record sonaruntil the card reaches capacity.Stopping the Sonar RecordingBefore you can stop recording sonar, you must begin recordingit (Recording the Sonar Display). From a sonar view, select MENU > Sonar Setup > SonarRecording > Stop Recording.Deleting a Sonar Recording1 Insert a memory card into the card slot.2 From a sonar view, select MENU > Sonar Setup > SonarRecordings > View Recordings.3 Select a recording.4 Select Delete.Playing Sonar RecordingsBefore you can play back the sonar recordings, you mustdownload and install the HomePort™ application and recordsonar data onto a memory card.1 Remove the memory card from the device.2 Insert the memory card into a card reader attached to acomputer.3 Open the HomePort application.4 Select a sonar recording from your device list.5 Right-click the sonar recording in the lower pane.6 Select Playback.Depth and Water Temperature GraphsIf you are using a depth-capable transducer, or are receivingwater depth information over NMEA®0183 or NMEA 2000, youcan view a graphic log of depth readings over time. If you areusing a temperature-capable transducer, or are receiving watertemperature information over NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000, youcan view a graphic log of temperature readings over time. The graphs scroll to the left as information is received.Select Sonar > Data Graphs.Setting the Depth and Water Temperature GraphRange and Time ScalesYou can indicate the amount of time and the range of depth thatappear in the depth and water temperature graphs.1 Select Sonar > Data Graphs > MENU.2 Select Depth Graph Settings or Temperature GraphSettings.3 Select an option:• To set a time-elapsed scale, select Duration. The defaultsetting is 10 minutes. Increasing the time-elapsed scaleallows you to view variations over a longer period of time.Sonar 19
