Ituses traditional navigation displays to provide navigation information. When navigation is in progress, the Compass Page provides naviga-tion data and directions. It uses a graphic compass ring, a bearing/coursepointer and digital data fields to display information such as currentspeed, distance to the next point on the route, estimated arrival time, etc.You can choose from three or four data fields and select the type of datadisplayed in each from a list of options. The rotating compass ring indicates the direction you are heading. TheBearing/Course Pointer indicates the direction (bearing) to your destina-tion relative to your current heading direction. The compass ring andBearing Pointer work independently to show your direction of movementand the direction to your destination. You can choose a Bearing Pointer orCourse Pointer for guidance. The compass ring is an electronic compass that functions like a mag-netic compass when you are stationary. However, when you are movingand reach a pre-set speed, it uses data from the GPS receiver to maintainyour heading. When you stop (after a pre-set time), it again operates likea magnetic compass. The compass ring is especially helpful when using apaper map or chart in conjunction with your eTrex Vista C for navigation. When the electronic compass is on, a compass icon appears in the statusbar at the top of the display. (see page 7).Scale
