Quick Start (For Soliton)H3C S3100 Series Ethernet Switches Chapter 2 Installation Preparation2-2z Enough space is reserved near the air-intake hole and theventilation hole of the switch for heat dissipation of theswitch chassis.z The cabinet or the workbench takes good ventilation andheat dissipation system.z The cabinet or the desk is solid enough to bear the weight ofthe switch and the accessories.z The cabinet or the desk is well grounded. To ensure normal operation and to prolong the life span of theswitch, the following requirements on the installation site must also besatisfied.2.2.1 Temperature/Humidity RequirementsYou should keep your equipment room within the propertemperature and humidity ranges to ensure the normal operation andworking life of your switch. If the humidity in the equipment room is toohigh for a long time, it may decrease the insulation attribute ofinsulating material or even cause electric leakage of insulatingmaterial, and, sometimes, may change the mechanical performanceof material and cause the rustiness and corrosion of metal parts. If therelative humidity is too low, the captive screws may become loose dueto the shrinking of insulation washers; in addition, electrostatic is morelikely to be produced in a dry environment, which may damage thecircuit of the switch. High temperature may cause even greaterdamage to the switch. High temperature for a long time will speed upthe aging of insulation material, greatly lower the reliability of theswitch and greatly reduce the life span of the switch. For the temperature and humidity requirements of differentmodels, refer to section 1.4 “Technical Specifications”.
