With the first usage a slight smell can arise (minimal smoke development isalso possible). This is normal and dissipates after a short time. Provide forsufficient ventilation.Adjusting the browning levelThe desired level of browning, from "light" (1) to "dark" (6) can be adjustedinfinitely with the browning regulator of the toasting time electronics.Take note that, subject to the demand made on the toaster, the level ofbrowning can vary somewhat with an unvarying adjustment of the browningregulator! The less the number of slices inserted, the higher is the browning level.Thus, if you are not intending to toast many slices, always adjust the browningregulator a little lower.Tips on usage Toast mixed-flour breads at higher browning levels than white bread.Matured, dry bread browns faster than fresh bread. In the event of a malfunction and when cleaning the appliance, removethe power plug from the wall socket. Risk of electric shock! Loosen jammed slices of bread with a blunt wooden object (e.g. a woodenspatula or spoon). Do NOT touch the heater elements. Differences in bread sorts, moisture and the thickness of individual slicesinfluence the browning of the toast. Therefore the bread for toasting shouldbe kept in sealed packaging until required.Toasting NEVER cover the toaster slots when operating the toaster! There is a dangerof fire! The appliance could be irreparably damaged! After setting the desired browning level, insert the bread into the toasterslots. Press the operating button downwards. The control lamp integrated intothe Cancel button glows. When the desired level of browning has been reached the toaster switchesitself off automatically and the slices are ejected to the top.
