7INITIAL PREPARATIONEach meter is supplied complete with batteries. Remove the backcover, unwrap the batteries and install them while paying attentionto the polarity. To prepare the instrument for use, connect the pH (or ORP) electrodeand the temperature probe to the connectors located on the top ofthe instrument. In order to achieve the maximum protec-tion against vapors and humidity, theBNC connector of the supplied pH electrodeHI1230B/C is shielded behind a water-proof sheath.Slide the protective sheath down; connectthe HI1230B/C pH electrode to the instru-ment and then slide the protective sheathback. Since the protective sheath is rub-berized and to ensure maximum waterproofprotection, make sure the connector is com-pletely covered. To switch the meter on, press the ON/OFFkey. The batteries charge status will bedisplayed on the LCD for a few seconds. The meter is now ready to operate. To maximize battery life, the meter is automatically switched off after 5minutes of non-use (this feature is enabled by default and can bedisabled through setup code "AOF"). To reactivate the instrumentpress the ON/OFF key. Before proceeding with pH measurements follow the pH calibrationprocedure.Note: When the use of an alternate function (DEL, FNC, CFM, GLP,RCL and AutoEnd) is requested, press and hold the ALT keyfirst and then the second listed key.Note: To prevent damages to the electrode, remove it from thesample before turning the meter off.If the meter is off, detach the electrode from the meter beforeimmersing it in the storage solution.ON / OFFNote: To prevent damage to the electrode, remove the pH electrodefrom the sample before turning the meter off.If the meter is off, detach the electrode from the meter beforeimmersing the electrode in the storage solution.ELECTRODE CONDITIONINGAND MAINTENANCE26
