OPERATION 29OperationTuner OperationThe AVR 2000’s tuner is capable of tuning AM,FM and FM Stereo broadcast stations and receiv-ing RDS data. Stations may be tuned manually, orthey may be stored as favorite station presetsand recalled from a 30 position memory.Station Selection1. Press the AM/FM Tuner Select button 6on the remote to select the tuner as an input.The tuner may be selected from the front panelby either pressing the Input Source Selector! until the tuner is active or by pressing theTuner Band Selector 9 at any time.2. Press the AM/FM Tuner Select button 6or Tuner Band Selector 9 again to switchbetween AM and FM so that the desired frequen-cy band is selected.3. Press the Tuner Mode button H on theremote or hold the Band Selector 9 on thefront panel pressed for 3 seconds to select manu-al or automatic tuning.When the AUTO indicator W is illuminated in theMain Information Display the tuner will only stopat those stations that have a strong enough sig-nal to be received with acceptable quality.When the AUTO indicator W is not illuminated,the tuner is in a manual mode and will stop ateach frequency increment in the selected band.4. To select stations press any Tuning button 8J. When the AUTO indicator W is illumin-ated, press the button to cause the tuner tosearch for the next highest or lowest frequencystation that has an acceptable signal or hold thebutton pressed to tune more quickly and releaseit to start the auto search. In the Auto mode thetuner will play each station in stereo or monomode, just as the program is transmitted. If theAUTO indicator W is not illuminated, tap theTuning button 8 J to advance one frequen-cy increment at a time, or press and hold it tolocate a specific station. When the TUNED indi-cator V illuminates, the station is properlytuned and should be heard with clarity.5. Stations may also be tuned directly by press-ing the Direct button I, and then pressingthe Numeric Keys G that correspond to thestation’s frequency. The desired station will auto-matically be tuned after the latest number isentered. If you press an incorrect button whileentering a direct frequency, press the Clear but-ton P to start over.NOTE: When the FM reception of a stereostation is weak, audio quality will be increasedby switching to Mono mode by pressing theTuner Mode button H on the remote orholding the Band Selector 9 on the frontpanel pressed for 3 seconds until theSTEREO indicator U goes out.Preset TuningUsing the remote, up to 30 stations may bestored in the AVR 2000’s memory for easy recallusing the front panel controls or the remote.To enter a station into the memory, first tune thestation using the steps outlined above. Then:1. Press the Memory button Q on theremote. Note that MEMORY indicator T willilluminate and flash in the Main InformationDisplay Ú.2. Within five seconds, press the Numeric KeysG corresponding to the location where youwish to store this station’s frequency. Onceentered, the preset number will appear in thePreset Number/Sleep Time Display Q.3. Repeat the process after tuning any additionalstations to be preset.Recalling Preset Stations• To manually select a station previously enteredin the preset memory, press the Numeric KeysG that correspond to the desired station’smemory location.• To manually tune through the list of storedpreset stations one by one, press the PresetStations Selector buttons ) O on thefront panel or remote.
