12 MAIN REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONSMAIN REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONSIMPORTANT NOTE: The AVR 7200’s remote maybe programmed to control up to eight devices,including the AVR 7200. Before using the remote,it is important to remember to press the InputSelector Button 3 that corresponds to the unityou wish to operate. In addition, the AVR 7200’sremote is shipped from the factory to operate theAVR 7200 and most Harman Kardon CD or DVDplayers and cassette decks. The remote is alsocapable of operating a wide variety of other productsusing the control codes that are part of the remote.Before using the remote with other products, followthe instructions on pages 38 – 40 to program theproper codes for the products in your system.It is also important to remember that many of thebuttons on the remote take on different functions,depending on the product selected using the DeviceControl Selectors. The descriptions shown here primarilydetail the functions of the remote when it is used tooperate the AVR 7200.a Power Off Button: Press this button to placethe AVR 7200 or a selected device in the Standbymode. Note that this will turn off the main roomfunctions, but if the Multiroom system is activated,it will continue to function.1 Power On Button: Press this button to turn onthe power to a device selected by first pressing one ofthe Input Selectors 3.2 LCD Information Display: This two-line screendisplays various information depending on the com-mands that have been entered into the remote.3 Input Selectors: Pressing one of these buttonswill perform three actions at the same time. First, if theAVR 7200 is not turned on, this will power up the unit.Next, it will select the source shown on the button asthe input to the AVR 7200. Finally, it will change theremote control so that it controls the device selected.After pressing one of these buttons you must pressthe AVR Selector Button 4 again to operate theAVR 7200’s functions with the remote.4 AVR Selector: Pressing this button will switch theremote so that it will operate the AVR 7200's functions. Ifthe AVR 7200 is in the Standby mode, it will also turnthe AVR 7200 on.5 Test Button: Press this button to begin thesequence used to calibrate the AVR 7200’s outputlevels. (See page 24 for more information on calibrat-ing the AVR 7200.)6 DSP Surround Mode Selector: Press thisbutton to select from among the available DSP surroundmodes. (See page 29 for more information on theTheater, Hall and VMAx modes.)7 Logic 7 Mode Select Button: Press this buttonto select from among the available Logic 7 surroundmodes. (See page 29 for the available Logic 7options.)8 Direct Button: Press this button when the tuneris in use to start the sequence for direct entry of a sta-tion’s frequency. After pressing the button, simplypress the proper Numeric Keys A to select a sta-tion. (See page 32 for more information on the tuner.)9 Clear Button: When programming the remoteor using the EzSet feature, press this button to cancelthe current function. When using the remote to enterfrequencies for direct tuner access, press this buttonto clear previous entries.A Numeric Keys: These buttons serve as a ten-button numeric keypad to enter tuner preset positions.They are also used to select channel numbers whenTV, Cable or SAT has been selected on the remote, orto select track numbers on a CD, DVD or LD player,depending on how the remote has been programmed.These buttons are also used to enter letters and num-bers when renaming devices in the LCD InformationDisplay. (See page 45 for more information on renam-ing devices and keys.)B Tuning Mode: Press this button when the tuneris in use to select between automatic tuning and manualtuning. When the button is pressed so that MANUALTUNING appears in the Lower Display Line B,pressing the Tuning Selector 9w will move thefrequency up or down in single-step increments. Whenthe FM band is in use, pressing this button for manualtuning when a station’s signal is weak will change tomonaural reception. (See page 32 for more information.)m Channel Select Button: This button is used tostart the process of setting the AVR 7200’s output levelsto an external source. Once this button is pressed, pressthe ⁄/¤ on the Navigation Button n to select thechannel being adjusted, then press the Set ButtonF, followed by the ⁄/¤ on the Navigation Buttonn again, to change the level setting. (See page 33 formore information.)D Navigation Button: This single disc-like button isused to navigate through the on-screen configurationmenus, to scroll through the options list and to selectchoices for the various settings such as delay, speakers,surround modes, digital inputs, etc. To use the button,simply press it left, right, up or down in the directionindicated by the ⁄¤‹ › icons printed on the buttondisc. Depending on the menu being used, pressing thebutton will either change the video highlight that indi-cates a specific choice or it will change the optionshown in the on-screen or front panel display. Thesections in this manual describing the unit’s individualfeatures and configuration options contain specificinformation on how the navigation controls are used.E Digital Select Button: Press this button to assignone of the digital inputs j &( to a source. (Seepage 30 for more information on using digital inputs.)F Set Button: This button is used to enter settingsinto the AVR 7200’s memory. It is also used in thesetup procedures for delay time, speaker configurationand channel output level adjustment.G Transport Play Buttons: These buttons have nodirect function on the AVR 7200, but they are usedwhen the remote is programmed for a compatibleDVD, CD or tape player. Pressing these buttons willtransmit a forward- or reverse-play command,according to the capabilities of the player beingcontrolled. In the factory default setting, these buttonsare programmed for Harman Kardon DVD players sothat you may control a compatible player withouthaving to switch devices.H Volume Up/Down Buttons: These controlsshare the common disc in the lower third of theremote. To raise the volume, press the button marked⁄ by pressing towards the top of the remote. To lowerthe volume, press the button marked ¤ by pressingtowards the bottom of the remote. The ‹/› buttonson the left and right sides of this disc change channelsup or down when the TV, cable box or satellite InputSelectors 3 have been pressed.I Transport Fast-Play/Scan Buttons: These but-tons have no direct function on the AVR 7200, butthey are used when the remote is programmed for acompatible DVD, CD or tape player. Pressing these but-tons will transmit a fast-play forward, fast-play reverse,or fast-forward or -reverse scan command, accordingto the capabilities of the player being controlled. In thefactory default setting, these buttons are preprogrammedwith the remote codes for Harman Kardon DVD playersso that you may control a compatible player withouthaving to switch devices.J Main Transport Controls: These buttons haveno direct function on the AVR 7200, but they are usedwhen the remote is programmed for a compatibleDVD, CD or tape player. Pressing these buttonswill transmit a stop (Í), record (Î), or pause (±)command, according to the capabilities of the playerbeing controlled. In the factory default setting, thesebuttons are programmed with the remote codes forHarman Kardon DVD players so that you may controla compatible player without having to switch devices.K Track Skip Up/Down Buttons: These buttonsdo not have a direct function with the AVR 7200, butwhen used with a compatibly programmed CD or DVDchanger will change the track or chapter currently beingplayed.
