OPERATIONNormal PlayThe FL 8385 provides a variety of ways to select discsfor playback.To play all of the tracks on each disc in order, startingwith the first track on the disc currently in the playposition, and proceeding through each disc that hasbeen loaded, press the Play/Pause Button ) onthe front panel, or the Play Button g on theremote.To start play on a specific disc, press the Disc SelectButton @ a that corresponds to the desired disc’sposition in the disc tray. If no disc is found in theselected position, the unit will search for the next disc.When a disc is in play, the Play Indicator R will belit. The track being played will appear in the TrackNumber Display D and its icon in the RemainingTracks Display F will flash. The elapsed time willappear in the Time Display E. As the disc plays, thetrack numbers shown in the Track Number DisplayD will change, and the time shown in the TimeDisplay E will reset to at the start of eachnew track.To momentarily pause the play of a disc, press thePlay/Pause Button ) on the front panel, or thePause Buttoni on the remote. The PauseIndication P will appear in the display to remind youthat the disc is paused. Press either the Play Button(Play/Pause on front panel) )g or the PauseButton i to resume normal play.You may also select a track on any disc in play byentering the desired track number directly using theNumeric Buttons b. Note that two buttons mustalways be pressed when entering a track number. Thus,when entering track numbers 1 through 9, press the“0” button first and then the number for the desiredtrack. The two buttons must be entered within threeseconds of each other.To stop the disc, press the Stop Button 9f.When the stop button is pressed, the display will againshow the total number of tracks and total running timeof the last disc played.Random PlayThe FL 8385 includes three Random Play modes thatenable you to let the machine select the tracks to beplayed in a random order. The Random modes maybe started at any time by pressing the RandomButton h on the remote when the unit is alreadyin Play mode.Random: To play all the tracks on a disc in randomorder, press the Random Button h ONCE so thatthe Random Indicator A lights. The FL 8385 willplay the tracks on the disc in an order selected by theunit’s microprocessor and stop play when all of thetracks have been played once.Random, Sequential: When the Random Buttonh is pressed TWICE, the Random A andSequential B Indicators will light. In this mode,all tracks on the current disc will be played in randomorder, and then the unit will advance to the next disc inorder and play all tracks on that disc randomly. Wheneach disc is finished, the next disc will play its tracks inrandom order until all discs have been played. Afterthe last disc plays, the unit will stop.Random, All Discs: When the Random Button his pressed THREE times, the Random A, All Qand Disc N Indicators will light. In this mode, theFL 8385 will select two tracks from the disc in use andplay them randomly. After these two tracks play, anotherdisc will be randomly selected and two tracks will playfrom that disc. This pattern of a randomly selected disc,and the play of two random tracks from each disc, willcontinue until all tracks on all discs have been played. Atthat point the unit will stop.HDCDHDCD, which stands for High Definition CompatibleDigital,® is a sophisticated process that enables theFL 8385 to deliver outstanding digital-to-analogdecoding, no matter what type of CD is played.When a disc with the HDCD logo is played, theFL 8385 is able to take advantage of the specialrecording process that is used in the creation of HDCDdiscs. Although HDCD discs are playable on any CDplayer, when they are used in a unit such as theFL 8385, the special circuitry delivers audio withextraordinary fidelity, stunning resolution and thehighest possible overall quality. The HDCD processeffectively cancels the additive and subtractive distor-tions that are present in other recordings.No special adjustment is required to play an HDCDdisc. Simply play the disc as you would any other CD,and the FL 8385 will automatically sense that it is anHDCD recording. The HDCD Indicator L will light inthe Information Display # on the front panel toremind you that an HDCD disc is playing.It is important to note that the HDCD process is com-pletely compatible with standard recordings. Its high-quality digital-to-analog circuitry provides enhancedplayback from all standard CD audio discs.Play ExchangeThe FL 8385’s Play Exchange feature allows you tochange discs while the machine is playing. Using thisfeature, you can enjoy uninterrupted play of an unlim-ited number of discs, since the drawer may be openedand discs changed while another disc is playing.To use the Play Exchange function, simply press theOpen/Close Button 6 at any time while the unit isin the Play mode. The disc drawer will open and twodiscs will be available for change. Replace either disc,or both, as desired. To reach the other two discs,press the Disc Skip Button !n. You may nowremove and change either of these two discs.When you have finished making any disc changes,press the Open/Close Button 6. The drawer willclose and play will continue with normal functions.Time DisplayThe FL 8385’s Time Display E is capable of show-ing a wide range of information about a CD.In normal operation, the display will show the total run-ning time of the track that is currently being played.Each time the track changes, the Time Display Ewill reset to and begin to increase again asthe disc plays.To view the time remaining on an individual track,press the Time Button k on the remote controlONCE. The Time Display E will now show the timeleft in the track currently playing.To view the total playing time remaining on a disc,press the Time Button k on the remote controlTWICE. In this Time Display mode the Track NumberIndicator D will show the tracks remaining, differingfrom the usual display of the track being played.Headphone ListeningYou may listen to the output of the FL 8385 throughheadphones by plugging any headphones with a 1⁄4"headphone plug or adapter into the front-panelHeadphones Jack 3. The volume of the head-phone output can be adjusted with the HeadphonesLevel Control 4. Note that changing the headphonelevel will not change the volume for the main audiooutput. This is a fixed output and it is changed usingthe volume control on your receiver, preamplifier orsurround processor.12 OPERATION |
