Chapter 3. Configuring the serverThe following configuration programs come with the server:v Configuration/Setup Utility programThe Configuration/Setup Utility program is part of the basic input/output system(BIOS). Use it to configure serial port assignments, change interrupt request(IRQ) settings, change the startup-device sequence, set the date and time, andset passwords. For information about using this utility program, see “Using theConfiguration/Setup Utility program” on page 54.v IBM ServerGuide Setup and Installation CDThe ServerGuide program provides software-setup tools and installation toolsthat are designed for the server. Use this CD during the installation of the serverto configure basic hardware features, such as an integrated SAS controller withRAID capabilities, and to simplify the installation of the operating system. Forinformation about using this CD, see “Using the ServerGuide Setup andInstallation CD” on page 59.v Baseboard management controllerUse these programs to configure the baseboard management controller, toupdate the firmware and sensor data record/field replaceable unit (SDR/FRU)data, and to remotely manage a network. For information about using theseprograms, see “Using the baseboard management controller” on page 61.v Boot Menu programThe Boot Menu program is part of the BIOS. Use it to override the startupsequence that is set in the Configuration/Setup Utility program and temporarilyassign a device to be first in the startup sequence, see “Using the Boot Menuprogram” on page 73.v Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility programThe Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility program is part of the BIOS. You can useit to configure the network as a startable device, and you can customize wherethe network startup option appears in your startup sequence. Enable theBroadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility from the Configuration/Setup Utility program. For information, see “Enabling the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility program” onpage 73.v Ethernet controller configurationFor information about configuring the Ethernet controller, see “Configuring theBroadcom Gigabit Ethernet controller” on page 74.v Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine configurationFor information about setting up and cabling the Remote Supervisor Adapter IISlimLine, see “Setting up the Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine” on page74.v ServeRAID ManagerServeRAID Manager is available as a stand-alone program and as an IBMDirector extension. Use the ServeRAID Manager to define and configure thedisk-array subsystem before you install the operating system. For informationabout using this program, see “Using ServeRAID Manager” on page 77.v IBM DirectorIBM Director is a workgroup-hardware-management tool that you can use tocentrally manage servers. If you plan to use IBM Director to manage the server, you must check for the latest applicable IBM Director updates and interim fixes.© Copyright IBM Corp. 2008 53
