Chapter 2. Installing options 33Installing a microprocessorYour server comes with one microprocessor installed in connector J2. This is thestartup (boot) microprocessor. A microprocessor installed in connector J3 ismicroprocessor 2; a microprocessor installed in connector J4 is microprocessor 3; amicroprocessor installed in connector J5 is processor 4. If more than onemicroprocessor is installed, the highest numbered microprocessor is the one fromwhich the server will start. The lower numbered microprocessors are used asapplication microprocessors.Note: The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your hardware.Attention: When you handle static-sensitive devices, take precautions to avoiddamage from static electricity. For details on handling these devices, see “Handlingstatic-sensitive devices” on page 8.To install an additional microprocessor kit:1. Review the information in “Before you begin” on page 7 through “Handlingstatic-sensitive devices” on page 8.2. Turn off the server and remove the power cords.3. Remove the top cover.4. Remove the processor housing cover.5. Remove the terminator card from the connector.6. Install the microprocessor.Note: Each microprocessor connector must contain either a terminator card or amicroprocessor.7. Install the voltage regulator module (VRM).8. Install the processor housing cover.9. Install the top cover (see “Completing the installation” on page 36).10. Cable the server and connect all power cords.Pop rivetsTerminator cardVRMProcessor housingcover
