7Speed – normal operationSpeed - regulated (no variation in speed)The speed is monitored and regulated by proces-sor controlled. The target speed is constantly com-pared with the actual rotation speed value of theoutput shaft and variations corrected. This guar-antees a constant speed even if the viscosity ofthe substance being stirred changes.Speed – overload operationThe stirrer can deliver double output for a shorttime to even out load peaks which could occurs, for instance, if solid or semi-pourable agents areadded. If the operation is in the overload range(e.g. process-related increase in viscosity), the actualspeed is reduced until the stirrer torque correspondsto the nominal torque of the machine, and the tar-get speed blinks. The possible speed is continuallyadapted to operating conditions, guaranteeing thatspeed is as close as possible to the target speed set.To protect the machine from overload, the speedis reduced if the machine has been operated inoverload mode. The target speed set then doesnot correspond to the actual speed of the outputshaft. This condition is indicated by blinking of thetarget speed (overload operation).Fluctuations in mains voltage within the permittedtolerance range have no effect on the quality ofregulation and constancy of speed. The speed is set using the front knob (B, seeFig. 1). During normal operations the speedvalue on the display (C, see Fig. 1) correspondsto the speed of the output shaft in revolutionsper minute (rpm).Overload status 1:The machine is already running in the overloadrange, the target speed does not yet correspondto the actual speed. This condition is maintainedas long as neither the motor current nor the tem-perature exceeds the permitted limit values.Display symbol: blinking of the target speed. When the load goes back to the normal range, the target speed stop blinking and correspond tothe actual speed.Overload status 2:When the machine meet a fluctuating loadwhich is over double of the nominal torque, theactual speed of the stirrer shaft will go downquickly to stop.Display symbol: Er 4 (see section “Error codes“).Output shaftEUROSTAR 20/40/60/100 digitalThe clamping chuck and output shaft permit clamp-ing IKA® recommend stirrer tools (see section “Per-mitted IKA® Stirrer tools“). The output shaft isdesigned as a hollow shaft and the opening on thetop side of the housing is closed with a plastic cover. When the stirrer cover is opened, it is possible forstirring shaft to be pushed out over the top edgeof the housing at standstill, e.g. during changingcontainer. For safety reason, the stirrer cover must be pushedback into the opening of the housing so that it isproperly closed. This is the only way to ensure thatworking with the unit is safe and that media cannotenter the instrument.EUROSTAR 20 high speed digitalThe output shaft has cone seat specially for preci-sion shaft. Stirring elements can be screw-connect-ed on the precision shaft (see Fig. 5).Please see section “Safetyinstructions“!The rotation speed is adjusted with the rotary knob(B, see Fig. 1) on the front of the overhead stirrer.Speed displayThe rotational speed is displayed directly in revolu-tions per minute (rpm) on the display (C, see Fig. 1).DANGER
