10Motor circuit breakerThe ball race three-phase motor is maintenance-free. Its attached switching unit features a specialsafety device for operation in the case of over-current and under-voltage (under-voltage release)to permanently disconnect the motor and avoidthermal damage. The instrument can only bestarted up again by activating the ON switch (A,see Fig. 1), when power permitted for the motoris supplied. You can find the basic connection and rating forthe motor on its rating plate. The safety switch SI 400 can also be connectedto the motor switching unit. When used in combi-nation with an IKA® stand, this allows the user toswitch on the instrument only at a defined heightin the stand’s working range. If the stirring unit is operated in such a way thatthe instrument’s OFF switch (B, see Fig. 1) is notaccessible, you must add another EMERGENCYSTOP switch to the work area so that it can beeasily reached.Gear speed changeYou can select one between two gear positions (Iand II) using the toggle button (E, see Fig. 1) onthe front of the instrument. You can only switchto a different cog wheel gear level when the in-strument is switched off (motor stopped).Otherwise this may cause damage to the gearcogs. The arrow on the front foil indicates the di-rection of the chuck.Only change the gear posi-tion at standstill!WARNINGSpeed displayThe rotation speed is adjusted by means of therotary knob (C, see Fig. 1) on the side of the over-head stirrer.CommissioningThe overhead stirrer RW 47 digital must be se-cured to a stable stand (e.g. R 474 or R 472) withfour screws and wired according to the wiring dia-gram for proper use. The stirring vessel must al-ways be well secured for safety reasons. You mustalso ensure that the mounting equipment (e.g.floor stand, telescope stand) is set up in such away that it is not liable to topple and does not startto move during the stirring procedure. Accessoriesmust be assembled and wired according to the as-sembly instructions (Fig. 3 to Fig. 7).Output shaftThe clamping chuck and output shaft permit clamp-ing IKA® recommend stirrer tools (see “PermittedIKA® Stirrer tools“ section). The output shaft is not de signed as a hollow shaft. Please see section “Safetyinstructions“!If the stirring unit is operated in such a way that theinstrument’s OFF switch (B, see Fig. 1) is not ac-cessible, you must add an another EMERGENCYSTOP switch to the work area so that it can beeasily reached. The rotation speed is displayed directly in revolutionsper minute (rpm) on the display (D, see Fig. 1).DANGER
