A DISTRESS CALL SHOULD BE MADE ONLY WHEN IMMEDIATEHELP IS NEEDED.D Simple call1. Confirm that no Distress call is being received.2. While lifting up the key cover, hold down [DISTRESS]for 3 seconds until you hear 3 short countdown beepsand a long beep sound.• The backlight blinks.3. After sending, wait for an Acknowledgment call.• “Waiting for ACK” is displayed.• The Distress call is automatically sent every 3.5 to 4.5minutes, until an Acknowledgement is received, or aDistress Cancel call is sent.4. When you receive an Acknowledgment, an alarmsounds. Push ALARM OFF to turn OFF the alarm.• Channel 16 is automatically selected.5. Hold down [PTT], and then explain your situation.6. After you have finished your conversation, pushCANCEL to return to the operating screen.TIP: A default Distress alert contains:• Nature of distress: Undesignated distress• Position information: The latest GPS, or manually input position, that is held for 23.5 hours,or until you turn OFF the transceiver.Key cover
