R DANGER! NEVER use or leave the battery pack inareas with temperatures above +60°C. High temperaturebuildup in the battery pack, such as could occur near firesor stoves, inside a sun heated car, or in direct sunlight maycause the battery pack to rupture or catch fire. Excessivetemperatures may also degrade performance or shorten life.R DANGER! DO NOT expose the battery pack to rain, snow, seawater, or any other liquids. Do not charge or usea wet battery pack. If the battery pack gets wet, be sure towipe it dry before using.R DANGER! KEEP the battery pack away from fire. Fire orheat may cause them to rupture or explode. Dispose of aused battery pack in accordance with local regulations.R DANGER! NEVER solder the battery pack terminals,or NEVER modify the battery pack. This may cause heatgeneration, and the battery pack may burst, emit smoke orcatch fire.R DANGER! Use the battery pack only with the transceiverfor which it is specified. Never use a battery pack with anyother equipment, or for any purpose that is not specified inthis instruction manual.R DANGER! If fluid from inside the battery pack gets inyour eyes, blindness can result. Rinse your eyes with cleanwater, without rubbing them, and see a doctor immediately.R WARNING! Immediately stop using the battery packif it emits an abnormal odor, heats up, or is discolored ordeformed. If any of these conditions occur, contact yourIcom dealer or distributor.R WARNING! Immediately wash, using clean water, anypart of the body that comes into contact with fluid frominside the battery pack.R WARNING! NEVER put the battery pack in a microwaveoven, high-pressure container, or in an induction heatingcooker. This could cause a fire, overheating, or cause thebattery pack to rupture.CAUTION: Always use the battery pack within the specifiedtemperature range, for the transceiver (–30°C to +60°C)and the battery pack itself (–20°C to +60°C). Using thebattery pack out of its specified temperature range willreduce the performance and the life. Please note that thespecified temperature range of the battery pack may exceedthat of the transceiver. In such cases, the transceivermay not work properly because it is out of its operatingtemperature range.CAUTION: Shorter battery life could occur if the batterypack is left fully charged, completely discharged, or in anexcessive temperature environment (above +50°C) foran extended period of time. If the battery pack must beleft unused for a long time, it must be detached from thetransceiver after discharging. You may use the battery packuntil the remaining capacity is about half, then keep it safelyin a cool and dry place at the following temperature range:–20°C to +50°C (within a month)–20°C to +40°C (within three months)–20°C to +20°C (within a year)BE SURE to replace the battery pack with a new oneapproximately five years after manufacturing, even if it stillholds a charge. The inside battery material will becomeweak after a period of time, even with little use. Theestimated number of times you can charge the battery isbetween 300 and 500.Even when the battery appears to be fully charged, theoperating time of the transceiver may become short when:• Approximately five years have passed since the batterywas manufactured.• The battery has been repeatedly charged.• Charging cautionR DANGER! NEVER charge the battery pack in areas withextremely high temperatures, such as near fires or stoves, inside a sun-heated vehicle, or in direct sunlight. In suchenvironments, the safety/protection circuit in the batterypack will activate, causing the battery to stop charging.R WARNING! NEVER charge the transceiver during alightning storm. It may result in an electric shock, cause afire or damage the transceiver. Always disconnect the poweradapter before a storm.R WARNING! NEVER charge or leave the battery pack inthe battery charger beyond the specified time for charging. If the battery pack is not completely charged by thespecified time, stop charging and remove the battery packfrom the battery charger. Continuing to charge the batterypack beyond the specified time limit may cause a fire, overheating, or the battery pack may rupture.R WARNING! NEVER insert the transceiver (the batterypack attached to the transceiver) into the charger if it is wetor soiled. This could corrode the battery charger terminalsor damage the charger. The charger is not waterproof.NOTE: Charge the battery pack within the specifiedtemperature range of +10°C to +40°C. Otherwise, thecharging time will be longer, but the battery pack will notreach a full charge. While charging, at a point after thetemperature goes out of the specified range, the chargingwill automatically stop.Thank you for choosing the IC-V88 vhf transceiver orthe IC-U88 uhf transceiver .READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS carefully and completelybefore using the transceiver.1-1-32 Kamiminami, Hirano-ku, Osaka 547-0003, Japan A-7140H-1EX-q Printed in Japan© 2014–2016 Icom Inc.R DANGER!
