The ignition electrode is clean and undamaged.d. The ignition lead is in good condition and securelyconnected.d. The spark gap is correct. Refer to Frame 37.e. The thermocouple tip is not burned or cracked.f. The position of the thermocouple relative to the pilotburner is correct. Refer to Frame 37.g. The thermocouple terminal at the gas valve is cleanand secure.h. The sightglass is clean and undamaged.5. Clean or renew components as necessary.1. Lift off lower front panel and remove the grilleassembly. Refer to Frames 28 & 29. Undo the gascock union. Remove the burner assembly.2. Undo the 2 wing nuts to remove the cleanout cover.3. Lift out the flue baffle. (RS3/40 only)4. Remove all loose deposits from the heat exchanger,especially from between the fins, using a suitablebrush.Remove all debris from the combustion chamber base5. Check that the flue outlet duct is unobstructed.31 CLEANING THE FLUEWAYS29 BURNER AND CONTROLS ASSEMBLY1. Lift off lower front panel (refer to Frame 28) andremove the grille assembly. Undo the gas cock union.2. Remove the wing nuts and washers, securing theburner front plate and remove the burner/controlsassembly from the boiler.1. Brush off any deposits that may have fallen onto theburner head, ensuring that the flame ports areunobstructed, and remove any debris that may havecollected.Note. Brushes with metallic bristles MUST NOT be used.2. Remove the main burner injector. Check, clean orreplace, as required.3. Refit the injector, using an approved jointing compound.4. Inspect the pilot burner, thermocouple and ignitionelectrode; ensure they are clear and in good condition.30 CLEANING THE BURNER ASSEMBLY3. When replacinga defectivemain burner barit is mostimportant thatthe baffles arefitted to the newburner.
