4 Status Button: This button has nofunction on the AVR480, but is used bysome DVD players and other devices toaccess an on-screen menu system.5 Input Selectors: Pressing one ofthese buttons will perform three actionsat the same time. First, if the AVR is notturned on, this will power up the unit.Next, it will select the source shownon the button as the input to the AVR.Finally, it will change the remote controlso that it controls the compatible productselected. After pressing one of these but-tons you must press the AVR SelectorButton 6 again to operate the AVR’sfunctions with the remote.6 AVR Selector: Pressing this buttonwill switch the remote so that it will oper-ate the AVR’s functions. If the AVR is in theStandby mode, it will also turn the AVR on.7 Test Tone: Press this button tobegin the sequence used to calibrate theAVR480’s output levels (see page 22 formore information on calibrating theAVR480).8 Sleep Button: Press this button toplace the unit in the Sleep mode. Afterthe time shown in the display, theAVR480 will automatically go into theStandby mode. Each press of the buttonchanges the time until turn-off in the fol-lowing order:Hold the button pressed for two secondsto turn off the Sleep mode setting. Notethat this button is also used to changechannels on your TV, VCR and SATreceiver when selected.9 Surround Mode Selector: Pressthis button to begin the process of chang-ing the surround mode. After the buttonhas been pressed, use the ⁄/¤ ButtonsC to select the desired surround mode(see page 28 for more information).A Repeat Button: This button hasno function on the AVR480, but is usedby some CD and DVD players and otherdevices to repeat play of program material.B Channel Select Button: This buttonis used to start the process of setting theAVR480’s output levels with an externalsource. Once this button is pressed, use the⁄/¤ Buttons C to select the channelbeing adjusted, then press the Set ButtonE, followed by the ⁄/¤ Buttons Cagain, to change the level setting (see page30 for more information).C ⁄/¤ Buttons: These are naviga-tional buttons. They will be used mostfrequently to select a surround mode.These buttons are also used to increase ordecrease output levels when configuringthe unit, to select speaker configurationor to select the digital inputs. They arealso used to enter delay time settingsafter the Delay Button has beenpressed.D ‹› Button: These buttons do nothave a function with the AVR480. Whena DVD player or TV is selected, they maybe used to navigate the menus of thosedevices.E Set Button: This button is used toenter settings into the AVR480’s memory.It is also used in the setup procedures fordelay time, speaker configuration andchannel output level adjustment.F Digital Select Button: Press thisbutton to assign one of the digital inputs to a source. (See page 27 for moreinformation on using digital inputs.)G Numeric Keys: These buttons serveas a ten-button numeric keypad to entertuner preset positions. They are also usedto select channel numbers when a TV,VCR or Sat receiver has been selected asthe input source, or to select track numberson a compatible CD, DVD or LD player.H Tuner Mode: Press this button whenthe tuner is in use to select betweenautomatic tuning and manual tuning.When the button is pressed so that theAUTO Indicator M goes out, pressingthe Tuning Buttons J8 will movethe frequency up or down in single-stepincrements. When the FM band is inuse and the AUTO Indicator M is on,pressing this button will change tomonaural reception, making even weakstations audible (see page 31 for moreinformation).I Direct Button: In Tuner mode, pressthis button when the tuner is in use tostart the sequence for direct entry of astation’s frequency. After pressing thebutton, simply press the proper NumericKeys G to select a station (see page31 for more information on the tuner).J Tuning Up/Down: When the tuner isin use, these buttons will tune up or downthrough the selected frequency band. If theTuner Mode Button H@ has beenpressed so that the AUTO Indicator Mis lit, pressing either of the buttons willcause the tuner to seek the next stationwith acceptable signal strength for qualityreception. When the AUTO Indicator Mis NOT illuminated, pressing these buttonswill tune stations in single-step increments(see page 31 for more information).K Night Mode: Press this button toactivate the Night mode. This mode isavailable only with Dolby Digital-encodeddigital sources, and it preserves dialogue(center channel) intelligibility at low vol-ume levels (see page 29 for moreinformation).L Subtitle On/Off Button: This buttonhas no function on the AVR480, but isused by some DVD players and otherdevices to turn on or off on-screensubtitles.M Transport Controls: These buttonsdo not have any functions for the AVR,but they may be used for the forward/reverse play operation of a wide varietyof compatible CD or DVD players, andaudio or videocassette recorders.N Track Skip Up/Down Buttons:These buttons have no direct functionwith the AVR480, but when used with acompatibly programmed CD or DVD player,they will change the track or chapter ofthe disc currently being played.90min 80min 70min 60min 50min40min 30min 20min 10min OFF13AVR480 harman/kardon |
