CHAPTER 7 – PROJECT K2 S5800 SWITCH OPERATIONSThe K2 S5800 has two switchesmounted on the network panelon the rear of the enclosure. The switches are covered byan access plate which is easilyremoved by unscrewing the twomounting screws. See Figure 8.The Network Mode (Bi-Amp)Switch ™ (center) should be left inthe Normal position except whenbi-amplification with an externalelectronic crossover is to beemployed. The necessary cross-over slopes for the K2 S5800 arevery specific and bi-amping the sys-tem should only be done using fac-tory-approved electronics. The HF Trim Switch £ (right)adjusts the high-frequency levelover the range of approximately1000Hz to 10kHz. The +1dB positiongives the highest HF output andmeasures the most level. 0dBreduces the HF level by 1dB andthe –1dB position reduces the HFlevel by an additional 1dB.Although the range of these con-trols is rather small, each of themoperate over a reasonably widefrequency range and thus have anoticeable effect on the overalltonal balance of the system. It isrecommended that the system firstbe played with the switch in themiddle position. This setting givesthe most uniform measurementsin a controlled environment. Ofcourse, we are interested in pro-ducing the most pleasing sound inyour environment with your choiceof program material. It is, therefore, recommended that the HF TrimSwitch £ be tested in its varioussettings on a variety of programmaterial. Once you become familiarwith their individual character, youshould have no difficulty determin-ing the setting which produces themost pleasing, natural sound inyour room with your equipment.BI-AMPNORMAL/BI-WIRE+1dB0dB-1dBHIGH FREQUENCY TRIMJBL INCORPORATED8500 Balboa Blvd. Northridge, CA USAHigh FrequencyLow FrequencyK2 S5800JBL INCORPORATED8500 Balboa Blvd. Northridge, CA USAHigh FrequencyLow FrequencyK2 S5800Figure 8.
