INSTALLING YOUR SP MK IIFor convenience of operation, we suggest that yourun all your main audio and video sources throughthe SP MK II. Four inputs (including the tape monitorinput) accept audio and composite video sourceswhile the remaining two accept audio and S-type(Y/C) video from S-VHS, S-Beta, and some laservideo players and satellite receivers. The SP MK II does not transcode the video signals.Composite video will only appear on the compositevideo outputs (monitor and record). Likewise, S-typesignals will only appear on the S-type outputs. The SP MK II can become the heart of a home enter-tainment environment. Every type of consumer audiosource can be used with the SP MK II except aturntable. If you wish to use a turntable/cartridge withthe SP MK II, you will require a preamplifier or stereoreceiver to provide proper pre-amplification and RIAAequalization for the magnetic phono cartridge. Themain output or tape record output from the preamp orreceiver should be connected to one of the six audioinputs on the SP MK II.The main audio outputs of the SP MK II are designedfor use with either THX–certified or conventionalspeakers. The electronic crossover switch (on theback panel) must be engaged when using THX–certi-fied speakers (separate subwoofer and LCR speak-ers).If you have a small room and are only using one sub-woofer, use the Mono Sub output. If you are using a single pair of conventional surroundspeakers or another manufacturers’ THX dipolar sur-round speakers, use the LB (left back) and RB (rightback) outputs. You will have to reverse the polarityof the surround speakers with that of the frontspeakers!16
