If there is no sound from any of thespeakers:• Check that receiver/amplifier ison and that a source is playing.• Review proper operation of yourreceiver/amplifier.• Make sure all wires are con-nected. Make sure none of thespeaker wires are frayed, cut orpunctured, or touching each other.If the system plays at low volumesbut shuts off as volume isincreased:• Check all wires and connectionsbetween receiver/amplifier andspeakers.• Make sure all wires are con-nected. Make sure none of thespeaker wires are frayed, cut orpunctured, or touching each other.• If more than one pair of mainspeakers is being used, check theminimum impedance requirementsof your receiver/amplifier.If there is no sound coming fromone speaker:• Check the “Balance” control onyour receiver/amplifier.• Check all wires and connectionsbetween receiver/amplifier andspeakers. Make sure no wires aretouching other wires or terminalsand creating a short circuit.• Make sure all wires are con-nected. Make sure none of thespeaker wires are frayed, cut orpunctured.• In Dolby* Digital or DTS ® modes,make sure that the receiver/processor is configured so that thespeaker in question is enabled.• Turn off all electronics and switchthe speaker in question with one ofthe other speakers that is workingcorrectly. Turn everything back on,and determine whether the prob-lem has followed the speaker, orhas remained in the same channel.If the problem is in the same chan-nel, the source of the problem ismost likely with your receiver oramplifier, and you should consult theowner’s manual for that product forfurther information. If the problemhas followed the speaker, consultyour dealer for further assistanceor, if that is not possible, visitwww.jbl.com for further infor-mation.CONNECTION TIPSSPEAKER CONNECTIONSSpeakers and electronics terminalshave corresponding (+) and (–) ter-minals. It is important to connectboth speakers identically: (+) on thespeaker to (+) on the amplifier and(–) on the speaker to (–) on theamplifier. Wiring “out of phase”results in thin sound, weak bassand a poor stereo image. With theadvent of multichannel surroundTROUBLESHOOTING– +– +– +Speaker OutputsLEFTRIGHT– +Installation of Self-AdhesiveRubber Pads: If the speaker is tobe placed on a surface (such asa table top or shelf) rather thanwall-mounted, the enclosed self-adhesive rubber pads are to beattached to the bottom of thespeaker cabinet in their desig-nated recessed locations. If thespeaker is to be wall-mounted,then the four self-adhesive rubberpads should be attached to theback of the speaker, as shown inthe bottom right diagram.When angle-mounting theS36 IIPM, only two of the rubberpads are required, and they needto be installed on the back of theloudspeaker, near the lower edge,so that they are located betweenthe back of the speaker and themounting surface. Please see theenclosed installation template formore details.NOTE: The threaded inserts on thebottom of the speakers are to beused only with JBL accessoriesthat have been developed specifi-cally for the S36IIPM and that maybecome available at a future date.Do not attempt to install bolts orany non-JBL brackets or acces-sories to these threads, as thismight damage the speaker anddislodge the insert.PADS GO HEREsound systems, connecting all ofthe speakers in your system withthe correct polarity remainsequally important in order to pre-serve the proper ambience anddirectionality of the programmaterial.To use the binding-post speakerterminals, unscrew the collar untilthe pass-through hole in the cen-ter post is visible under the collar.Insert the bare end of the wirethrough this hole; then screw thecollar down until the connectionis tight.The hole in the center of each col-lar is intended for use with banana-type connectors. To comply withKEYHOLES FORMOUNTING HARDWAREPLACE RUBBER PADS HEREFor wall-mountingFor tabletop or shelf placementEuropean CE certification, theseholes are blocked with plasticinserts at the point of manufacture.Use of banana-type connectorsrequires the removal of the inserts.Do not remove these inserts ifyou are using the product in anarea covered by European CEcertification. |
