7Make Gas ConnectionTo Assemble Pressure Regulator:1. Connect the flexible stainless steel connector to the pressureregulator using a ¹⁄₂" male pipe thread adapter.A combination of pipe fittings must be used to connect thecooktop to the existing gas line. Shown in the followingillustration is a typical connection. Your connection may bedifferent, according to the supply line type, size and location.NOTE: When installing the cooktop above a built-in oven, install a 90º elbow - ¹⁄₂" female to ¹⁄₂" male between thecooktop manifold pipe and the pressure regulator. Theregulator must be set with the arrow pointing toward thecooktop. Apply pipe joint compound for use with LP gas tothe end of the cooktop manifold pipe and the male end of the90° elbow.2. Install the pressure regulator with the arrow pointing uptoward the bottom of the burner box and in a position whereyou can reach the regulator.IMPORTANT: All connections must be wrench-tightened. Donot make connections to the gas regulator too tight. Makingthe connections too tight may crack the regulator and causea gas leak. Do not allow the regulator to turn on the pipewhen tightening fittings.Use only pipe-joint compound made for use with Natural and LPgas.Do not use TEFLON® tape. You will need to determine the fittingsrequired depending on your installation.Typical flexible connection1. Apply pipe-joint compound made for use with LP gas to thelarger thread ends of the flexible connector adapters (see Band F in the following illustration).2. Attach 1 adapter to the gas pressure regulator and the otheradapter to the gas shutoff valve. Tighten both adapters.3. Use a ¹⁵⁄₁₆" combination wrench and channel lock pliers toattach the flexible connector to the adapters. Check thatconnector is not kinked.Complete Connection1. Open the manual shutoff valve in the gas supply line. Thevalve is open when the handle is parallel to the gas pipe.2. Test all connections by brushing on an approvednoncorrosive leak-detection solution. If bubbles appear, aleak is indicated. Correct any leak found.A. Gas pressure regulatorB.
