43.0 Safety Warnings1. Read and understand the entire owner’smanual before attempting assembly oroperation.2. Read and understand the warnings postedon the machine and in this manual. Failureto comply with all of these warnings maycause serious injury.3. Replace the warning labels if they becomeobscured or removed.4. This band saw is designed and intended foruse by properly trained and experiencedpersonnel only. If you are not familiar withthe proper and safe operation of a bandsaw, do not use until proper training andknowledge have been obtained.5. Do not use this band saw for other than itsintended use. If used for other purposes,Walter Meier (Manufacturing), Inc., disclaimsany real or implied warranty and holds itselfharmless from any injury that may resultfrom that use.6. Always wear ANSI approved safetyglasses/face shields while using this bandsaw. Everyday eyeglasses only have impactresistant lenses; they are not safety glasses.7. Before operating this machine, remove tie,rings, watches and other jewelry, and rollsleeves up past the elbows. Remove allloose clothing and confine long hair. Non-slip footwear or anti-skid floor strips arerecommended.8. Wear ear protectors (plugs or muffs) duringextended periods of operation.9. Some dust created by power sanding,sawing, grinding, drilling and otherconstruction activities contains chemicalsknown to cause cancer, birth defects orother reproductive harm. Some examples ofthese chemicals are:• Lead from lead based paint.• Crystalline silica from bricks, cementand other masonry products.• Arsenic and chromium from chemicallytreated lumber.Your risk of exposure varies, depending onhow often you do this type of work. Toreduce your exposure to these chemicals,work in a well-ventilated area and work withapproved safety equipment, such as face ordust masks that are specifically designed tofilter out microscopic particles.10. Do not operate this machine while tired orunder the influence of drugs, alcohol or anymedication.11. Make certain the switch is in the OFFposition before connecting the machine tothe power supply.12. Make certain the machine is properlygrounded.13. Make all machine adjustments ormaintenance with the machine unpluggedfrom the power source.14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Forma habit of checking to see that keys andadjusting wrenches are removed from themachine before turning it on.15. Keep safety guards in place at all timeswhen the machine is in use. If removed formaintenance purposes, use extreme cautionand replace the guards immediately aftermaintenance is complete.16. Make sure workpiece is securely clamped inthe vise. Never use your hand to hold theworkpiece.17. Check coolant level frequently. Replace dirtyor weak coolant.18. Check damaged parts. Before further use ofthe machine, a guard or other part that isdamaged should be carefully checked todetermine that it will operate properly andperform its intended function. Check foralignment of moving parts, binding ofmoving parts, breakage of parts, mountingand any other conditions that may affect itsoperation. A guard or other part that isdamaged should be properly repaired orreplaced.19. Inspect blade for cracks, wear or missingteeth. Replace blade if these symptoms arefound.20. Provide for adequate space surroundingwork area and non-glare, overhead lighting.21. Keep the floor around the machine cleanand free of scrap material, oil and grease.22. Keep visitors a safe distance from the workarea. Keep children away.23. Make your workshop child proof withpadlocks, master switches or by removingstarter keys.
