Failure to complymay result in serious injury. The IDP-17 and IDP-22 Drill Presses are rated at400V power, The drill press comes with a plugdesigned for use on a circuit with a grounded outlet .Before connecting to power source, be sure switch isin off position.6.1 GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONSThis tool must be grounded. In the event of amalfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a pathof least resistance for electric current to reduce therisk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with anelectric cord having an equipment-groundingconductor and a grounding plug. The plug must beinserted into an appropriate outlet that is properlyinstalled and grounded in accordance with all localcodes and ordinances.Improper connection of theequipment-grounding conductor can result in arisk of electric shock. Check with a qualifiedelectrician or service person if you are in doubt asto whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do notmodify the plug provided with the tool – if it willnot fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed bya qualified electrician. The conductor with insulation having an outer surfacethat is green with or without yellow stripes is theequipment-grounding conductor. If repair orreplacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary,do not connect the equipment-grounding conductor toa live terminal.Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-pronggrounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that acceptthe tool's plug.Repair or replace damaged or worn cord immediately.6.2 Extension cordsThe use of extension cords is discouraged; try toposition machines near the power source. If anextension cord is necessary, make sure it is in goodcondition. When using an extension cord, be sure touse one heavy enough to carry the current yourproduct will draw. An undersized cord will cause adrop in line voltage resulting in loss of power andoverheating. Table 1 shows correct size to usedepending on cord length and nameplate ampererating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. Thesmaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.Amp Rating Volts Total length of cord in feetMoreThanNotMoreThan120240255050100100200150300AWG0 6 18 16 16 146 10 18 16 14 1210 12 16 16 14 1212 16 14 12 NotRecommendedTable 1: Extension cord recommendations7.0 Adjustments7.1 Depth stop adjustmentTo drill multiple holes at the same preset depth, usethe depth stop:1. Make a pencil mark on edge of workpiece toindicate depth of hole. With drill bit in chuck, lower downfeed handle toadvance bit to your mark. With your other hand, advance lock nuts (A, Figure 8-1) on the depth dimension until they are snug tothe seat (B).The drill bit will now advance to this point. To release, advance nuts counterclockwise to top ofdepth stop.
