4Daily inspect the function andexistence of the safety appliancesbefore you start the machine.Do not attempt operation in this case,protect the machine by unplugging thepower cord.Remove all loose clothing and confinelong hair.Before operating the machine, removetie, rings, watches, other jewellery,and roll up sleeves above the elbows.Wear safety shoes; never wear leisureshoes or sandals.Always wear the approved workingoutfit.Do not wear gloves.Wear goggles when workingInstall the machine so that there issufficient space for safe operation andworkpiece handling.Keep work area well lighted.The machine is designed to operate inclosed rooms and must be placedstable on firm and levelled ground.Make sure that the power cord doesnot impede work and cause people totrip.Keep the floor around the machineclean and free of scrap material, oiland grease.Stay alert!Give your work undivided attention.Use common sense. Do not operatethe machine when you are tired.Do not operate the machine under theinfluence of drugs, alcohol or anymedication. Be aware that medicationcan change your behaviour.Never reach into the machine while itis operating or running down.Never leave a running machineunattended. Before you leave theworkplace switch off the machine.Keep children and visitors a safedistance from the work area.Do not operate the electric tool nearinflammable liquids or gases.Observe the fire fighting and fire alertoptions, for example the fireextinguisher operation and place.Do not use the machine in a dumpenvironment and do not expose it torain.Before machining, remove any nailsand other foreign bodies from theworkpiece.Work only with well sharpened tools.Machine only stock which restssecurely on the table.Always close the chuck guard andpulley cover before you start themachine.Remove the chuck key and wrenchesbefore machine operation.Specifications regarding the maximumor minimum size of the workpiecemust be observed.Do not remove chips and workpieceparts until the machine is at astandstill.Do not stand on the machine.Connection and repair work on theelectrical installation may be carriedout by a qualified electrician only.Have a damaged or worn power cordreplaced immediately.Make all machine adjustments ormaintenance with the machineunplugged from the power source.Never place your fingers in a positionwhere they could contact the drill orother cutting tool if the work pieceshould unexpectedly shift or your handshould slip.Secure workpiece against rotation.Use fixtures, clamps or a vice to holdthe workpiece.Never hold the workpiece with yourhands alone.Whenever possible, position the workpiece to contact the left side of thecolumn. If it is too short or the table istilted, clamp solidly to the table. Usethe table slots or clamping ledgearound the outside of the table.When using a drill press vice, alwaysfasten it to the table.Never do any works “freehand” (hand-holding the work piece rather thansupporting it on the table), exceptwhen polishing.Securely lock the head to the columnand the table bracket to the columnbefore operating the press.Never move the head or the tablewhile the machine is running.If a work piece overhangs the tablesuch that it will fall or tip if not held,clamp it to the table or provideauxiliary support.Do not use wire wheels, router bits,shaper cutters, circle cutters, or rotaryplaners on this drill press.To avoid injury from parts thrown bythe spring, follow instructions exactlyas given when adjusting the springtension of the quill.3.3 Remaining hazardsWhen using the machine according toregulations some remaining hazardsmay still exist.The rotating drill bit can cause injury.Thrown workpieces and workpieceparts can lead to injury.Dust, chips and noise can be healthhazards. Be sure to wear personalprotection gear such as safety gogglesand dust mask. Use a suitable dustcollection system.The use of incorrect mains supply or adamaged power cord can lead toinjuries caused by electricity.4.
