14Removing and Replacing Knives (JJ-8CS only)Disconnect the machine fromthe power source before making anyadjustment or repair. All knife lock boltsmust be firmly tightened or risk ejection ofthe knife(s) and lock bar from the cutterhead!Failure to comply may cause serious injury!1. Disconnect machine from power source.2. Remove blade guard by loosening lockscrew (A, Fig. 23) and lifting up on bladeguard. Caution: blades are sharp! Usegreat care when hands are around bladearea!3. Loosen the five lock screws (Fig. 24). Note:Loosen screws by turning in a clockwisedirection as viewed from the infeed table.Carefully remove the knife (A, Fig. 25), andthe lock bar with screws (B, Fig. 25).Repeat for the other two blades.4. Before assembly, clean all parts thoroughlyand clear cutterhead knife slots of any dustor debris.5. Insert knife into the cutterhead channelmaking sure it faces the proper direction.6. Insert lock bar and screws and tighten tohold in place. Blades are set at the properheight when the top of the blade is 1/16"above the cutterhead.7. Repeat for other two blades.8. To set the knives to the outfeed table and tothe same height in the cutterhead, seesection titled “Leveling Outfeed Table toCutterhead Knives” found on page 12 of thismanual.Replacing or Rotating Knife Inserts(JJ-8HH only)The knife inserts on the model JJ-8HH Jointerare four-sided. When dull, simply remove eachinsert, rotate it 90° for a fresh edge, and re-install it.Use the two provided star point screwdrivers toremove the knife insert screw. See Figure 26.Use one of the screwdrivers to help hold thecutterhead in position, and the other to removethe screw. It is advisable to rotate all inserts atthe same time to maintain consistent cutting.However, if one or more knife inserts develops anick, rotate only those inserts that are affected.Figure 23Figure 24Figure 25Figure 26
