178.15 Lower blade guidesRefer to Figure 26.1. Disconnect band saw from power source.2. Open lower door and swing lower guard out ofthe way.3. Adjust lower guide bearings and lower thrustbearing below table in similar manner to that ofupper guide and thrust bearings.4. Movement summary: Loosen lock knob (H) tomove guide bearing. Loosen lock knob (J) androtate knob (K) to adjust thrust bearing inrelation to blade. To move entire guideassembly, loosen handles (L).5. Make sure all knobs and handles are tightenedafter adjustments are complete.Figure 268.16 Guide postRefer to Figure 27.1. Disconnect band saw from power source.2. Loosen lock knob (M) and raise or lower guidepost using handwheel (N).Figure 273. Position blade guide assembly so that bottomof guide bearings are about 1/8” abovematerial to be cut. Or, simply lower guide postuntil scale pointer (O) indicates height of yourworkpiece. This provides minimal clearancebetween workpiece and bottom of guidebearings, which will minimize blade deflectionas well as enhance operator safety.4. Tighten lock knob (M).8.17 Guide post parallelismThe guide post should be parallel to bladethroughout vertical travel of the guide post; thus theguide bearings will maintain their relationship toblade at any height from the table and won’trequire re-setting each time guide post is moved. This setting has been accurately made by themanufacturer and should not require immediateattention, but may be checked in future as follows:1. Disconnect band saw from power source.2. Move blade tension handle to “Full Tension”position.3. The guide bearings in low position shouldalready be set in relation to blade (see section8.13). Also, the table must be square withblade (see section 8.4).4. Loosen lock knob (M, Figure 27) and raiseguide post to a high position.5. Confirm that guide post travels straight up anddown, and guide bearings maintain theirrelationship to blade.6. If guide post does not go straight up and down(blade begins deflecting when guide post israised), slightly loosen the two screws (P,Figure 27) and adjust guide post assembly asneeded.7. When finished adjusting, securely tighten thetwo screws (P).8. Verify the setting by raising and lowering guidepost.8.18 Drive belt replacement andtensioningThe drive belt and pulleys are properly adjusted atthe factory. However, belt tension should beoccasionally checked when the band saw is new,as a new belt may stretch slightly during thebreaking-in process. If belt becomes worn, cracked, frayed or glazed, itshould be replaced as follows:Refer to Figures 28 and 29.1. Disconnect machine from power source.2. Open upper and lower doors and removeblade.3. Loosen motor lock handle (A, Figure 28).4. Raise motor lift handle (B) and retighten lockhandle (A) to hold motor in raised position.
