154. Before assembly, clean all partsthoroughly and clear cutterhead knifeslots of any dust or debris.5. Insert knife into the cutterhead channelmaking sure it faces the properdirection.6. Insert lock bar and screws and tightento hold in place. Blades are set at theproper height when the top of the bladeis 1/16" above the cutterhead.7. Repeat for other two blades.8. To set the knives to the outfeed tableand to the same height in thecutterhead, see section titled “LevelingOutfeed Table to Cutterhead Knives”found on page 12 of this manual.Replacing or Rotating KnifeInserts (JWJ-8HH only)The knife inserts on the model JWJ-8HHJointer are four-sided. When dull, simplyremove each insert, rotate it 90° for a freshedge, and re-install it.Use the two provided star pointscrewdrivers to remove the knife insertscrew. See Figure 26. Use one of thescrewdrivers to help hold the cutterhead inposition, and the other to remove thescrew. It is advisable to rotate all inserts atthe same time to maintain consistentcutting. However, if one or more knifeinserts develops a nick, rotate only thoseinserts that are affected.Each knife insert has an etched referencemark so that you can keep track of therotations.IMPORTANT: When removing or rotatinginserts, clean saw dust from the screw, theinsert, and the cutterhead platform. Dustaccumulation between these elements canprevent the insert from seating properly,and may affect the quality of the cut.Before installing each screw, lightly coat thescrew threads with machine oil and wipe offany excess.Securely tighten each screw which holdsthe knife inserts before operating theplaner!Make sure all knife insertscrews are tightened securely.
