84. Information on usage4.1 Cleaning textilesBefore you use the steam cleaner on textilesincluding delicate fabrics like Dralon, velvet, lea-ther and items protected by Scotch Guard orany similar substance, you should always testthat the material is resistant to steam by app-lying it to a section not normally visible.Apply steam to the concealed section and thenleave it to dry. Check to see that the colour andshape have not been affected before moving toa visible area. In case of doubt it is always bet-ter to consult your steam cleaner dealer.Use only the steam gun without attachments toapply steam from 30- 45 cm on these delicatefabrics, then wipe off with a cotton cloth.4.2 Cleaning hard surfacesDo not direct steam onto glued edges of ob-jects, otherwise the edge strip could be beco-me detached. Do not use the steam cleaneron wood or parquet floors that have not beensealed. Some surfaces can change colour and texturewhen treated with steam. Consult the manufac-turers recommendations first, and always test ina non visible place and then let it dry, to see whe-ther changes in colour or textures occur. In caseof doubt and on sensitive materials like coated orpainted surfaces, wood, waxed marble etc. it isalways better to ask your steam cleaner dealerfor advice. If steam is applied for too long, wax, furniture po-lish, plastic coating or paint could be lifted off ormarks could be caused. You should thereforeclean these types of surface with a separate clothto which steam has been applied or very brieflywith a double layer of cloth attached to thenozzle.4.3 Cleaning glass surfacesDo not apply steam jet directly to the sealedparts of the window round the frame, otherwi-se the seal could be damaged. When the outside temperature is low, especiallyin winter, warm the window pane by applying asmall amount of steam across the whole surfaceof the glass. This will even out any differences intemperature and avoid stresses in the glass. Thisis important because glass surfaces that are hea-ted by varying amounts can shatter.3. Getting started3.8 Transporting the unit• If you have been working with the extensiontubes (D1) and the floor nozzle (G1), it is qui-te easy to transport the unit, e.g. up anddown stairs.• Turn the heater OFF with switch (A9), standthe unit upright, and attach the extensiontube to the retaining bracket on the undersi-de of the main unit.Note: The extension tube can only be attachedif the mains cable has not already been woundround the holder on the main unit.3.9 Storing the unit• Place the hand nozzle, window nozzle, spotnozzle and other small parts into the acces-sory compartment (A11).• Wind the cable around the holder on thebase of the main unit. Insert both extensiontubes individually into the recesses in thebase of the unit. Stick the floor nozzle withthe accessory storage adaptor (J1) on a ex-tension tube.• Ensure that the brushes are allowed to cooldown without the bristles becoming defor-med in the process.Important: If you wish to leave the unusedwater in the boiler until the next use, do notstore the unit in the vertical position (safety capmay become stuck due to furring). If you wishto store the unit for a longer period of time or inthe vertical position, please drain the water offcompletely.
