SECTION 5. REFERENCE OSCILLATORFREQUENCY CALLIBRATIONYour DG-5 was completely aligned at thefactory. However, the reference oscillator fre-quency sometimes may deviate with secularchange. In such an event, calibrate it as directedbelow.CAUTIONBefore calibration, wait over onehour for the DG-5 to warm up afterpower-on.1. Set the TS-520S BAND switch to WWV toreceive the 15MHz standard wave.2. Connect the supplied signal cable from theDG-5 CAL connector to the TS-520S XVERTER IN connector as shown in Figure7. The fifteenth harmonic of the DG-5reference oscillator fundamental, 1 MHz,will superimpose on the 15MHz WWVsignal. Then you will hear of an impure, double beat.3. Adjust the trimmer located inside thebottom cover using an adjust screwdriveruntil the impure beat becomes clear, asshown in Figure 7. For more precise adjust-ment, the S meter on the TS-520S is helpful. The S meter pointer will vibrate finely oneither side of the true calibration point. As the reference oscillator frequency comesclose to the calibration point, the pointerdeflection becomes large and slow. Whenit is largest and slowest, set the trimmer.ANT1S7DG-5COUNT IN HET VFO CAR CAL -1-0 0 0 013.8 VADJUST SCREWDRIVERTS-520SCOUNTER0 000 0 °0 0X VERTER')IN0 0120 /220 VFigure 7.
