(If youhave already set up the speakers or programmed radio sta-tions using Remote Control unit you don’t have to repeatthe procedures using the front panel.)Since you still must use Remote Control unit to identifyand set up your source devices for control, we recommendthat you use it for all setup procedures.• Do not operate Remote Control unit while you are per-forming Speaker Setup on the receiver’s front panel.Preparation for setupMost of the front panel control buttons are located insidethe panel door. Make the following preparation for setupon the receiver. Open the panel door by pushing the lowerpart of the panel door.Speaker Setup1. Press the SET UP button (SOUND button) untilSUBWOOFER ON appears on the receiver’s display (formore than 2 seconds).A. If your system has a powered subwoofer, leave thereceiver set this way and proceed to step 2.B. If your system does not have a powered subwoofer,press either MULTI CONTROL (fi/%) button once.The receiver’s display will read SUBWOOFER OFF.2. Press the SET UP button once more. The receiver’s dis-play will read FRONT NML/THX.A. If your left and right front speakers are not capableof producing clean, deep bass energy at output lev-els that match those produced by a typical poweredsubwoofer, leave the receiver set this way and pro-ceed to step 3. (Most left and right speakers shouldbe considered NML/THX.)B. If your left and right speakers are very large, and ca-pable of reproducing clean, deep bass energy at out-put levels that match those produced by a typicalpowered subwoofer, press either MULTI CONTROL(fi/%) button once. The receiver’s display will readFRONT LARGE.NOTE: If you set your front speakers to LARGE, thesubwoofer may not output audio dependingon the setups of the rest of the speakers, theinput signal and the listen mode. If your center speaker is not capable of producingclean, deep bass energy at output levels that matchthose produced by a typical powered subwoofer, leavethe receiver set this way and proceed to step 4.
