Tradesman Construction HeatersOwner’s Manual • Tradesman15Maintenance Instructions Service InstructionsBEFORE EACH USE:■ Check the area surrounding the heater to ensure it isclear and free of combustible materials, gasoline, andother flammable vapors and liquids.■ Have your gas supplier check all gas connections forleaks or restrictions in gas lines.■ Inspect the regulator vent to make sure the regulatorvent is not blocked. Debris, insects, insect nests, snow, or ice on a regulator can block vents and causeexcess pressure at the heater.■ Check all wiring, associated terminals, and electricalcomponents within the heater for corrosion, frayedor cut insulation, tight connections, etc. Repair orreplace as necessary.■ Check the hose assembly after heater installation, re-location, and when the heater is in use. If it is evidentthere is excessive abrasion or wear, or if the hose iscut, it must be replaced immediately.■ Review all heater markings (i.e. wiring diagram, warn-ings, start-up, shut-down, troubleshooting, etc.) at thetime of maintenance for legibility. Make sure none arecut, torn, or otherwise damaged. Any damaged mark-ings must be replaced immediately by contacting theL.B. White Co., Inc. Data plate, startup and shut-downinstructions and warnings are available at no cost.ANNUALLY:■ Clean and check the igniter for cracks. Replace ifnecessary.■ Regulators can wear out and function improperly.Have your gas supplier check the date codes on allregulators installed and check delivery pressures tothe heater to make sure that the regulator is reliable.■ Test the auto reset high limit switches to ensure properoperation. (See Testing instructions for same in thisowner’s manual.)1. Close the fuel supply valve to the heater and discon-nect the electrical supply before servicing unlessnecessary for your service procedure.2. Remove the heater’s bottom base or side panel foraccess to electrical components and connections.3. Disconnect the appropriate electrical leads for thecomponent being replaced.4. Remove the fan guard and motor/fan assembly foraccess to upper barrel components.5. The auto reset high limit switches, and thermostatcan be tested by disconnecting the leads at thecomponent, and placing a jumper connecting theleads together.:-- Reconnect the electrical supply and open fuel supplyvalves.-- If the heater lights, the component is defective andmust be replaced.-- Do not leave the jumper on or operate the heater if thepart is defective. Replace the part immediately.-- An alternate method for checking the components is toperform a continuity check.6. The air proving switch must not be jumpered. Ifjumpered, the ignition control will not allow heateroperation. Test the air proving switch for continuity. Ifdefective, replace the switchWARNINGBurn Hazard■ Some heater surfaces are hot for a period oftime after the heater has been shut down.■ Allow the heater to cool before performingservice, maintenance, or cleaning.■ Failure to follow this warning will result inburns causing injury.WARNINGFire and Explosion Hazard■ Do not disassemble or attempt to repair anyheater components or gas train components.■ All component parts must be replaced ifdefects are found.■ Failure to follow this warning will result infire or explosions, causing property damage, injury, or death.
