LaCie Professional Server RAID RepairTechnical Brief: RAID page 899.2.2. Replacing Disk 0Replacing and repairing Disks 0 and 1 require the same series ofsteps. The one difference is how the system will react to a rebootwhile the System mirror is resynching. If the 5big Storage Server restarts while Disk 1 is being replaced andresynching, the server will have no problem finding a bootable oper-ating system on Disk 0. However, if Disk 0 is being replaced and the5big Storage Server restarts during the System mirror resynch, thedevice will hang. In this unique case, the 5big Storage Server cannotfind a bootable operating system on the first logical drive. If the System mirror resynch is interrupted and the 5big Storage Serv-er hangs, unplug Disk 0 from the back of the unit. With Disk 0 brieflydisassociated from the 5big Storage Server, it can find a bootableoperating system on Disk 1.Once the 5big Storage Server has restarted, reinsert Disk 0 andreturn to Disk Management to finish resynching the System mirror(9.2. Repairing the System Mirror and RAID 5 After a Disk Failure).9.2.3. Rebooting During a ResynchRestarting the 5big Storage Server while it is resynching a mirror ora RAID 5 array will not harm data or the integrity of the volume. The sole drawback of rebooting the device during a resynch is losttime. An interrupted resynch does not pick up where it left off oncethe 5big Storage Server has restarted. Instead, the resynch will startagain from 0%.
