Section 3Columbia 400 (LC41-550FG) Emergency ProceduresInitial Issue of Manual: November 10, 2004 RC050002Latest Revision Level/Date: -/11-10-2004 3-5Section 3Emergency ProceduresINTRODUCTIONThe emergency procedures are included before the normal procedures, as these items have ahigher level of importance. The owner of this handbook is encouraged to copy or otherwisetabulate the following emergency procedures in a format that is usable under flight conditions.Plastic laminated pages printed on both sides and bound together are preferable. Such a checklistis included as part of the airplane’s delivery package. Complete Emergency ProceduresChecklists shall be carried in the aircraft at all times in a location that is easily accessible to thepilot-in-command.Many emergency procedures require immediate action by the pilot-in-command, and correctiveaction must be initiated without direct reference to the emergency checklist. Therefore, the pilot-in-command must memorize the appropriate corrective action for these types of emergencies. Inthis instance, the Emergency Procedures Checklist is used as a crosscheck to ensure that no itemsare excluded and is used only after control of the airplane is established. When the airplane isunder control and the demands of the situation permit, the Emergency Procedures Checklistshould be used to verify that all required actions are completed. In all emergencies, it is important to communicate with Air Traffic Control (ATC) or theappropriate controlling entity within radio range. However, communicating is secondary tocontrolling the airplane and should be done, if time and conditions permit, after the essentialelements of handling the emergency are performed.AIRSPEEDS FOR EMERGENCY OPERATIONSEngine Failure After TakeoffWing Flaps Up (Cruise Position)Wing Flaps Takeoff Position108 KIAS95 KIASMaximum Glide (Flaps Up)3600 lbs.
